Deepen Your Faith this Lent with our Parish Lenten Prayer and Other Resources
At St. Malachi, we celebrate the First Sunday of Lent with a procession to the cross, asking our brothers & sisters, the saints, to intercede for us and be with us on our Lenten journey. We each take a nail cross from the large cross at the front of the sanctuary and keep it with us as we pray, fast, serve others and learn to follow Christ more fully. This practice reminds us that our own sufferings are one with His as we return the nail on Good Friday, uniting ourselves to the redeeming cross.
St. Malachi Lenten Prayer
This year, we distributed prayer cards at the doors of the church for your use. The nail crosses were distributed in individually wrapped plastic bags along with a prayer card. If you are unable to attend Mass in person, we invite you to download the Online Prayer Card and print a copy to pray at home with your family. This prayer will also be featured during our Livestream services, during communion, for those joining us online.

A New Kind of Fast:
This was shared in our bulletin and we share it here as a “new kind of fast” for Lent:
In the words of Pope Francis:
• Fast from hurting words and say kind words.
• Fast from sadness and be filled with gratitude.
• Fast from anger and be filled with patience.
• Fast from pessimism and be filled with hope.
• Fast from worries and have trust in God.
• Fast from complaints and contemplate simplicity.
• Fast from pressure and be prayerful.
• Fast from bitterness and fill your hearts with joy.
• Fast from selfishness and be compassionate to others.
• Fast from grudges and be reconciled.
• Fast from words and be silent so you can listen.
Pope Francis Quote for 03/27-28/2021
We are called to live our Lenten journey as people directed toward the light of Christ. We are called to welcome this light into our conscience, to open our hearts to God’s infinite love, to God’s mercy full of tenderness and goodness. God always forgives our sins when we ask for forgiveness. Angelus Message

Good Friday: Day of Fast and Abstinence
Good Friday is a day of abstinence from meat for all Catholics who are over 14 years of age and of fasting for Catholics from their 18th through 59th birthday. People with fragile health, special medical conditions or other serious reasons are not required to fast.
Holy Land Appeal, 2021
A special collection for the care of the holy places and the Holy Land’s Christian community is scheduled for Good Friday. Because of Good Friday’s solemnity, we choose not to take up a collection during the service. Please return your Holy Land Appeal envelope in the collection on Easter.

Lenten Outreach-St. Kizito Foundation, 2021
Our annual Parish Lenten Project will benefit the St. Kizito Foundation, a non-profit organization founded in 2001 by Father Don Dunson, a priest of our diocese, to provide hope for young people who have been affected by the war and poverty in Uganda. The students are former child soldiers, victims or orphans of war, poverty, and disease, or suffer from HIV/AIDS or physical and mental disabilities. Through the efforts of the foundation, these young people are provided with scholarships, counseling, food, shelter, and community support. Offering envelopes will be available at the church doors for your use. Sponsored by our Social Action Commission. For further information, visit www.stkizito.org.
