This year, we support Christians in the Holy Land, the “living stones” whose population has fallen to less than 2% in the place where Christianity began. Today, only one Catholic school, Holy Family School, remains in Gaza. The Cleveland Holy Land Consortium supports this school. Our Bishop Nelson has encouraged a local effort to stand with the Christians of Gaza at Holy Family School and Parish. Help support families whose communities are largely cut off from the rest of the world. The need is urgent! Offering envelopes are available at the doors of the church for you to use to turn your personal Lenten sacrifices into contributions which will help Catholic children in Gaza make their way to a brighter day. Return Offerings on HOLY THURSDAY or EASTER SUNDAY. For more information contact: Sir Jeffery Abood, firstname.lastname@example.org 330-612-7968.
On Sunday, February 24, 2019 Sir Jeffrey Abood, a knight in the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, presented at St. Malachi about the suffering of Christians in the Holy Land, and their desperate need for our support.
The Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem is an order of Knights in continuous service to the Pope since 1133. Their mission today is “to support the Christian presence in the Holy Land.”
Because of severe economic conditions resulting from the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) urgently recommends that we assist through Prayer, Pilgrimage, Projects and Public Actions.
A full copy of Sr. Jeffrey’s disturbing presentation is available here:
All St. Malachi parishioners are encouraged to sacrifice and make the most generous contribution possible to support the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre, which is our Lenten mission for 2019. Please bring your contributions on Holy Thursday.
Next weekend, January 20, 2019, is the national collection for the Catholic University of America. The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. is our national Catholic university. It annually provides an academically rigorous education guided by the Catholic intellectual tradition to nearly 7,000 students. There will be a second collection at all the Masses. We appreciate your generosity.
Throughout winter, please bring hats, socks, gloves, hand & foot warmers, granola and cereal bars to the Metanoia Office on the second floor of the school between the Masses. Our Back Door Ministry needs eggs, cheese, coffee, sugar, creamer, and canned soups, which can be brought directly to the rectory kitchen. Our neighbors need our help!
