St. Malachi Parish Office will be closed on Monday, February 17th in observance of President’s Day.
Eucharistic Adoration, Wednesdays
St. Patrick’s will be hosting a weekly opportunity for adoration at the Rectory Chapel on Wednesday evenings after the 5:30pm Mass. Join us and let the Eucharist transform your heart. Draw closer to Jesus. Experience how He transforms your life. Stop in for 5 minutes or an hour. Adoration hours are from after 5:30pm Mass until 8:00pm. Enter the St. Patrick Rectory by the door closest to the church under the walkway. (Please do not use the Bridge Avenue door.)
If you would like to be a host for an adoration session, please contact Katie Stroh at Katiestroh216@gmail.com. This effort comes from our parishioners who at tended the Eucharistic Revival Congress last summer. The Feast of the Presentation of the Lord is an ancient celebration in the Church. It is also called Candlemas because, on this day, candles are blessed. These candles remind us that Jesus is the Light of the World. The feast is celebrated on February 2, forty days after Christmas. It recalls the day when Mary and Joseph brought Jesus to the Temple in Jerusalem to present Him to God.
Many of these candles will be used throughout the liturgical year (at Mass, for baptisms, and for devotional use), as well as sanctuary candles used to indicate that the Blessed Sacrament is present in the tabernacle.
This event is rooted in Jewish tradition. According to the Law of Moses, every firstborn son belonged to God. Jewish parents were to bring their son to the Temple and offer a small sacrifice in thanksgiving. By bringing Jesus to the Temple, Mary and Joseph followed God’s law faithfully. This act shows their humility and obedience to God.
Because February 2, 2025 falls on a Sunday in Ordinary Time, the Church invites us to celebrate this special feast at all of this weekend’s liturgies.
And…because this weekend precedes the Feast of St. Blaise, the blessing of throats (with more candles) will be offered. This custom commemorates a miracle attributed to St. Blaise and is offered to invoke God’s healing power for all the Faithful.
May the Light of Christ shine brightly in our hearts and throughout the world!

Dear Friends and Parishioners,
If you are familiar with HGTV, then you know of the variety of shows about renovation of houses. Owners of these houses are walked through a process of discovering new ideas while taking what they love about their current space. Emotions can run high as they experience this transformation toward something new.
The same can happen when parish life is calling for a renewal. As St. Patrick and St. Malachi continue our collaboration, pastoral and ministerial renovation is necessary. What do we love about our parishes and what new features would we love to see? What’s worth keeping and what new opportunities are available as we continue our journey together? What are w struggling to maintain and what is calling us to a
keener sense of mission?
Based on Fr. James Mallon’s book, Divine Renovation, we invite all parishioners to participate in a very special series beginning
January 15 as we gather for the kick-off, followed by several weeks of participation in small reflection groups. Our parish family is invited to
explore a divine renovation as we name our hopes as well as natural frustrations and moments of angst. What is needed as we are called to trust while discovering joy in this process of renewal?
Please join us on the 15th for what promises to be a fruitful journey for renovating our parish family’s mission and ministry. See the bulletin for more details. As we proceed with implementing our efforts of collaboration, you’ll begin to see some changes in
our weekly bulletin. Christy Bartley, our Communications Coordinator, is working with our bulletin team as we merge weekly liturgical schedules and parish events at both campuses. This will be a good opportunity for each parish community to be acquainted with one another. We’ll also be featuring some of the highlights of the Collaboration Implementation Teams as they begin to meet this month. Please send any bulletin feedback to christy.bartley@stpatrickbridge.org.
Like any house up for renovation, this can be an exciting time but certainly not without questions, concerns, and a range of emotions. We need YOU as part of our journey moving forward – together.
Joyfully yours in Christ,
Fr. Gurnick
Gratitude
With Sincere Gratitude On behalf of our clergy and our entire parish staff,
I thank those who sent beautiful cards and sweet treats during the Christmas season. We are most grateful for your kind thoughtfulness!
I also take this opportunity to publicly thank our parishioners who planned and participated in our Christmas liturgies. From the extra rehearsals and decorating to your presence at the Masses, thank you for creating a warm and inviting environment during this sacred time of year.
Finally, on behalf of the hundreds of folks who benefitted from your generous response to our Christmas Card outreach, Christmas and donations of food, thank you for making the holidays just a little brighter! May the Lord continue to abundantly bless each and all of us as Pilgrims of Hope.
Gratefully in Christ, Fr. Gurnick & Staff

Dear Friends and Parishioners,
I came across this excerpt from Catholic News Agency’s summary of Pope Francis’ Angelus 2020 address on the Feast of the Holy Family. It rings so true as we pray in a special way for all families throughout the Christmas Season. A key note of the life of the family of Nazareth was joy, with the Child Jesus “surrounded by the maternal affection of Mary and the care of Joseph, in whom Jesus was able to see God’s tenderness.” We too, said Pope Francis, “are called to rediscover the educational value of the family unit.” Families, he said, must be founded “on the love that always regenerates relationships, opening up horizons of hope.” The Pope emphasized the importance in the family of prayer, affection, forgiveness, tenderness, and adherence to the will of God. “In this way,” he said, “the family opens itself to the joy that God gives to all those who know how to give joyfully.” A happy home, he added, is also outgoing: “it finds the spiritual energy to be open to the outside world, to others, to the service of brothers and sisters, to collaboration in building an ever new and better world,” especially by the example of daily life.
May you and your family enjoy the blessings God so earnestly desires for you and for all families as they bear joy, hope, and stability for our world.
In Jesus, Mary and Joseph,
Fr. Gurnick

Dear Parishioners and Friends,
With only days away from Christmas, our attention may be on last-minute shopping for gifts or groceries. Maybe decorating with one more strand of lights on the mantle. Wherever we are with these preparations, may we use these next few days preparing our hearts for the renewed joy and hope that our Savior’s birth offers. Wherever your holiday travels take you, may you enjoy the blessings of faith and family. Be assured of my personal prayers for all of our parishioners and friends.
Christmas blessings,
FR. GURNICK
