March 2008
The Cluster Planning Committee met again at St. Wendelin’s on February 28,
2008. At this meeting, the committee tackled three main issues: setting a
timeline to get us to the November 15th deadline by which our cluster must
submit its proposal to the diocese; establishing sub-committees; and beginning
to establish a vision for the cluster.
For the timeline, the committee set three important dates:
: At our next meeting on April 1, 2008, we will complete the
draft of our vision for the cluster. During April, we anticipate hosting
community meetings for our parishioners to share the vision and receive input
from each parish. The input of each parish will be used to further refine the
vision. The dates and formats of the meetings have yet to be determined, and we
will announce the details as soon as we can.
August 1, 2008: At the beginning of August, we anticipate preparing our
initial draft of the Cluster Plan we must submit to the diocese, including
consolidating from 4 parishes to “no more than 2 parishes.” We anticipate
hosting community meetings after we have prepared the recommendation to receive
input from each parish; we will announce details of those meetings in August.
The Cluster Plan will be refined and modified based on the input of each parish.
November 15, 2008: The diocese requires we submit our final Cluster Plan
by November 15, 2008. The Cluster Plan will be accompanied by a statement of
commitment signed by each pastor, Parish Council chairperson and Finance Council
chairperson
Next, the committee established two additional sub-committees (the first
being the Shared Activities/Programs committee begun in January) to help us move
through the planning process. One sub-committee will look at the finances of the
four parishes and the other will examine the facilities at each parish.
Finally, the committee began to establish its vision for the cluster. We
reviewed Bishop Lennon’s vision for diocese, which includes embracing the
mission of Christ in the eight counties of the diocese. Building on the Bishop’s
vision for the entire diocese, we plan to spend our next meeting on April 1st
forming our vision for the cluster. We encourage you to share your vision with
our pastors and committee members.
