CELEBRATING HOLY WEEK

For Christians, Holy Week is the celebration of the salvation of all humanity through the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

This feast of our salvation is so important that the Church celebrates it over three days (“Triduum” is Latin for “three days”). While most people think of the Triduum as three celebrations - The Mass of the Lord's Supper on Holy Thursday, The Commemoration of the Lord's Passion on Good Friday and the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday continuing on Easter - it is actually one great liturgy spread over three days. The Mass of the Lord's Supper begins, as usual, with the Sign of the Cross and Greeting (“The Lord be with you”), but does not conclude with a Final Blessing and Dismissal (“Go in peace”). The Final Blessing and Dismissal comes only at the end of the Easter Vigil.

During the Triduum, we are called to enter into the paschal mystery, the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ “for us and our salvation.” The Holy Week celebration is not “historical re-enactment” (like the people who dress up as Civil War soldiers), but our entering into the events that save us. At Holy Thursday Mass, we are linked with the Last Supper as we receive the Body and Blood of Christ and are called to live out Jesus' example of humble service. On Good Friday, we venerate the Cross of Jesus Christ in which he gave his life for us. On Holy Saturday, we renew our own Baptism into Christ's death, so that we may also rise with him. There are no holier days than these. Let us all celebrate this feast of our salvation.

offer Lenten sacrifices & give the money saved to support the work of Water 1st InternationalLIVING WATER -- WATER FOR LIVING
In John's Gospel, Jesus offers the woman at the well “living water.“ In our world today, one out of every five people do not have access to clean water; two of every five people do not have access to basic sanitation, leading to 5,000,000 deaths a year. This year, the people of St. Malachi are invited to offer Lenten sacrifices & give the money saved to support the work of Water 1st International, which works with local communities in Bangladesh, Honduras, India & Ethiopia to provide locally built & run water systems. If you have not already done so, please pick up a “water jugs” label to attach to a container or envelope for your Lenten sacrifices & bring it to Holy Thursday Mass. If you are unable to attend Holy Thursday then please bring your gift to Easter Sunday Mass.

SHARED MINISTRY GOOD FRIDAY SERVICE

"Hosanna to the Son of David; blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord; hosanna in the highest." And when he entered Jerusalem the whole city was shaken and asked, "Who is this?" And the crowds replied, "This is Jesus the prophet, from Nazareth in Galilee."
