2006 LENTEN APPEAL: DE LA SALLE SCHOOL, BETHLEHEM
This year, you are invited to support the De La Salle School in Bethlehem. This is a Christian School in the Holy Land which serves 600 students, boys and girls, Christian and Muslim from Pre-School through high school. Fr. Tony visited the school last fall during his retreat in the Holy Land; it reminded him of Urban Community School. The school is a sign of hope in this troubled land. There is a two-track religion program - Christian and Muslim. The school teaches non-violence and peace; they discuss each incident. About 90% of their graduates go on to college. Tuition is about a dollar a day (i.e. $365); the annual cost per student is $700 a year. Because unemployment in Bethlehem is currently 50%, the school operates at a deficit. During Lent, you are invited to make a daily Lenten sacrifice and put the money aside. Envelopes are available at the doors of the church; please make check payable to “St. Malachi Benefit Fund.” At the end of Lent, we will forward the funds to the school for the education of students.

During Lent
Fast from fear; Feast on Faith
Fast from despair; Feed on hope.
Fast from depressing news; Feed on prayer.
Fast from discontent; Feast on gratitude.
Fast from anger and worry; Feed on patience.
Fast from negative thinking;
Feast on positive thinking.
Fast from bitterness; Feed on love and forgiveness. Fast from words that wound;
Feast on words that heal.
Fast from gravity; Feed on joy and humor.

Then a cloud came, casting a shadow over them; then from the cloud came a voice, "This is my beloved Son. Listen to him." Suddenly, looking around, they no longer saw anyone but Jesus alone with them. (Mk 9:7-8)
