The Coming 140th
(and Coming 30th) -
Celebrating our Vibrancy |
|
|
|
|
|
|
In November, 2005 - just a year from now - St. Malachi Parish will celebrate its 140th Anniversary. Next year, Bishop Pilla will join us for our anniversary Mass on the feast of St. Malachy. April 2005 will also mark the 30th anniversary of the Community of St. Malachi as a parish.
This November, we will begin our 140th year. When Parish Council began discussing what this anniversary might mean for us, we began reflecting on Bishop Pilla's Vibrant Parish Life initiative and his call for every parish to become vibrant in its life and ministry. This became the framework to celebrate our anniversary year. We decided to celebrate each of the areas of vibrancy we identified during our self-study process (remember the questionnaires we filled out two years ago?)
The areas of vibrancy rated most highly by both Parishioners and Community members are, in order:
* Liturgical celebrations
* Social Service ministries
* Neighborhood presence, i.e. serving as an anchor in the neighborhood
* Youth Education
* Personal connection/compassion; hospitality &
inclusiveness
* Dedicated staff
* Commitment to dialogue between Parish and the Community of St. Malachi
We will celebrate each of these in a special way during the coming year.
The first opportunity is the Social Action Potluck coming on
Friday, November 12 starting at 6:30 in the hall. It will be a wonderful moment to celebrate the many people and many ways people are already engaged in action to make a difference in the lives of people and our world. There will be time to share, time to learn from each other, time to appreciate and give thanks for the dedication and commitment present and vibrant at St. Malachi for so many years. By all means - come!
