Easter Week

Christ is risen! Alleluia! The center of Christian faith is our belief that Jesus rose from the dead. As St. Paul wrote: “if Christ has not been raised, then empty is our preaching; empty, too, your faith. Indeed, we should then be exposed as false witnesses of God, for we have born witness before him that he raised up Christ; but he certainly did not raise him up if the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, neither has Christ been raised, and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is in vain; you are still in your sins. Then those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If for this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are the most pitiable people of all. But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.” (1 Cor. 15: 14-20) This is why Easter - not Christmas, not Good Friday, not Pentecost - is the greatest feast of the Church year. On Easter, we celebrate Christ's victory over sin and death; at Easter, we have the pledge of eternal life with Christ.
This is why the Church celebrates Easter as an Octave. We celebrate the feast of Easter all week long; every day this week, Sunday to Sunday, literally is Easter. This is why the days are listed in the Mass Intentions as “Easter Sunday, Easter Monday, Easter Tuesday, etc.” Each day we read one of the Gospel stories of the risen Jesus' appearance to his disciples.
In the same way, each Christian should continue their personal celebration of Christ's resurrection this week. Let us not ask “How was your Easter?” but rather, “How are you celebrating Easter?” Christ is risen, as he said! Let us rejoice and be glad, Alleluia!

2004 CATHOLIC HOME MISSIONS APPEAL
Next Sunday's second collection benefits the Home Missions. Home Missions in the United States are places where the Catholic Church struggles just to keep parishes open and to educate people in the faith. Please give generously to assist fellow Catholics here in America..

2004 LENTEN APPEAL: SPECIALIZED HOUSING
This year's Lenten Appeal has been for “Procop House” a new specialized housing effort to help individuals “leave homelessness behind.” If you have not yet made a contribution from your Lenten sacrifices, please pick up one of the envelopes at the doors of the church and make check payable to “St. Malachi Benefit Fund” so we will be able to send the funds to the Procop House project.

SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION
The Sacrament of Confirmation will be celebrated at St. Malachi on April 27. Confirmation is a Sacrament of Initiation, which all Catholics should receive. Any adult who has not yet been confirmed is invited to contact Fr. Tony or Mary Jane Treichel to begin preparation.

SPRING-SUMMER ROAD CONSTRUCTION NEAR
ST. MALACHI

A road-construction project for West 25th and Detroit, Vermont and Superior Viaduct is underway and will last into August. It is a major project, which will involve reconfiguring the W 25th and Detroit intersection, repaving W 25th Street in front of the Church, closing Superior Viaduct, widening Vermont and creating new parking in front of the County Engineers building. Within a few weeks, it will affect the availability of parking, especially next to the church on Vermont. We will keep you informed through announcements, flyers and the bulletin about the stages of the project as it unfolds. We ask your patience and cooperation to make this as easy and trouble free as possible for everyone.

THE OHIO BOY CHOIR
