A CALL TO VIBRANT PARISH LIFE

Vibrant Parish Life

"I am very concerned about the increased burden upon fewer priests, the effect on priestly morale of being "over-stretched", the burden upon lay ecclesial ministers having insufficient priestly and sacramental support, and the burden upon our institutions to recruit, train, and maintain lay ecclesial ministers with just compensation. These aspects of our present dilemma bring urgency to the discussion. We need to move more quickly in planning for the future in order to honor, encourage and preserve the treasure we have in our parish ministers because these challenges strike them most significantly every day.
" Bishop Anthony M. Pilla.
You can learn more about Bishop Pilla' Vibrant Parish Life pastoral letter & initiative at the Vibrant Parish Life web site.

STEPS OF OLD CHURCH — A SERIOUS PROBLEM We have learned recently that the steps to the old church & retaining wall have deteriorated. The pressure of the hill has been pushing the wall toward Washington Ave. It is now tilting a foot or more from vertical & leaning dangerously toward the street. At the top of the steps, there is a gap of several inches between the wall & the platform. We are seeking expert advice, recommendations & costs. The most likely course of action seems to be: remove the steps, build a lower retaining wall like the one in front of the rectory (using the existing stone of the wall) & landscaping the hill (similar to what is done in front of the rectory). This project should not affect the shrine area. This will obviously be a major, unanticipated expense.
BLOOD MOBILE
A second blood drive will be held next Sunday, September 22, from 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM at the Center. Blood may be given every 56 days; donors on August 11 are not eligible to give. For all others, please try to donate!
