ADVENT BEGINS The First Sunday of Advent begins the Church year. Attached to today's bulletin is a schedule for the Advent & Christmas season; please keep it for reference. During this liturgical year, Sunday readings will be the "C" cycle in the Lectionary & weekday readings in Ordinary time will be from Year I.
HOLY DAY This Friday, December 8, is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary, a holy day & the patronal feast of the U.S. There will be a Vigil Mass on Thursday at 5:30 PM & Friday at 7 AM & Noon.
ST HERMAN BENEFIT This Sunday at St. Malachi Parish Hall is the annual benefit Spaghetti Dinner for St. Herman House of Hospitality from 11 AM to 5 PM, $6 adults, $4 seniors, $2.50 children under 12. Bake sale at 10 AM.
COMMUNAL PENANCE Our Advent Communal Penance Service will be next Sunday, December 10, at 2 PM at St. Wendelin Church. Several priests will serve as confessors.
HOLIDAY FRUIT BASKETS Next Sunday, December 10, between Noon -2PM, St. Malachi will again deliver Christmas fruit baskets to the residents of Lakeview and Riverview Hi-Rises. Individuals & families will be needed to distribute baskets and share a bit of the St. Malachi spirit! To sign up to help, call Sr. Francis (216) 861-5343.
RETIRED RELIGIOUS APPEAL Next weekend is the annual appeal for Retired Religious. This national collection supports many retired Sisters & Brothers who served God's people for many years for little or no pay, are now retired and whose community retirement funds are inadequate to support them. There will be a second collection.
CENTER HOLIDAY GIFTS BOUTIQUE St. Malachi Center needs new or "like new" gift items for mothers & fathers, teens, children & toddlers for the annual children's Christmas Boutique on Wednesday, December 20 from 4-6:30 PM. Volunteers are also needed to assist children in gift selection & wrapping. Please bring gift items to the Center by December 17. For information, call Cathy Saegel at (216) 771-3036.
CHRISTMAS GIVING TREE Social Concerns is sponsoring a "Giving Tree" for the children of St. Malachi Center & furnishings for the new West Side Catholic Center shelter. To participate, take an ornament off the tree. Please tape the ornament securely to the wrapped gift when you return it under the tree.

SUPPORT WELCOME A meal without cost is served to the needy on Mondays at 6 PM in the parish hall. Coffee, sandwiches and doughnuts are served daily at the rectory. Volunteers are welcome (216-861-5343).

ENTERTAIN- MENT BOOK 2001 St. Malachi Center is selling Entertainment Books 2001: Cleveland & West Edition filled with "two for one" & 50% off discounts for area restaurants & stores. Cost is $30 per book & is available at Malachi Mart, St Malachi Center, the rectory or back of the church. Contact St. Malachi Center (216) 771-3036.
JUBILEE ENDS

There will be a special Mass on January 7, 2001 at Public Hall at 3 PM to mark the end of the Jubilee Year & Bishop Pilla's 20th Anniversary as Bishop of Cleveland. For tickets, call 696-6525 ext. 2060.

MALACHI MART

Malachi Mart has Y2K Safe Trek dehydrated food supplies, Entertainment 2001 books, supplies & gifts for holiday giving. You can check their weekly specials on their web page: www.stmalachimart.org  
Malachi Mart hours are: Wednesday - Saturday, 10 AM - 5 PM; Sunday 10 AM - 1:30 PM.

BACKDOOR NEEDS We have a continuing need for men's socks. The Backdoor Ministry distributes them as quickly as we get them in. White preferred. We also also need mens' work pants or jeans.

WANTED: HELP FOR MART Malachi Mart supports the ministry of St. Malachi Center. The Mart is always looking for volunteers,  to assist in every way.
