Sanctuary Cross & Risen Christ: was installed during the
1976-77 renovation The Celtic Cross is an authentic copy of the oldest cross in Ireland, located in
Sligo. The circle, a symbol of eternal life, runs through the cross and proclaims our faith in eternal life through the cross and resurrection of Christ. The four cusps (knobs) represent the four Gospels.
Designed by Laurence Campbell of Chicago, it was created and carved by Patrick J Gannon, an Irish immigrant The risen Christ was carved by Frank Kukczka who spent five years in a Nazi work camp.
