The meeting was opened at 6:30 with prayer. The meeting was conducted by Norm
Bringman, vice—president.
The minutes of the December, 2000, meeting were read and corrected to include the financial report submitted by the finance chair. The corrected minutes were then approved.
President's Report: No report
Pastor's Report: The Rejoice & Renew: St. Malachi Looks to the Future interview results were distributed to the council members, read and reviewed by the council
and, after clarifying discussion, were accepted and approved.
COMMISSION REPORTS:
Finance: Sheila Moorman presented the. financial statement for the six month period ending Dec. 31, 2000. Of interest, the weekly collections averaged $3,233 with $3,235 budgeted. special bequest in the amount of $25,000 was received. Pledges of
$10,000 each were paid to St. Malachi Center and Malachi House.
Liturgy: Chair Mark Dailey reported the Epiphany series was attended by about 80 people. The committee is seeking a lenten speaker.
Social Concerns: Cathy Saegel has joined the committee and Cathy La Bianca Johnson is now co-chair.
Future Church: Marge Gibbons reports that the Pro-Life office of the diocese is working with Fr. Tony. Prison ministry to women was discussed. Guidelines for participants were outlined. Marge will obtain a list of items which can be donated to the women.
Building & Grounds: The rectory roof was damaged during a November storm; repairs were made and were covered under warranty. Downspouts on the east side of the rectory will be replaced in the spring.
Spiritual Development: The first meeting between St. Malachi and Fairmount Temple took place on February 8. There was good dialogue between the groups. A contemplative prayer group has been established and will meet on the second and fourth Wednesdays in January and February.
MINISTRY REPORTS:
UCS: Sr. Maureen reports that, for the first time, UCS students competed in a writing competition with students of other schools and represented themselves very well, taking third place overall; one student took first place in her event. The sports program is doing well with the boys getting a trophy. All graduating students have applied to private/religious secondary school. tuition has been increased by 3%, ranging from $130 to $2,100 per student.
St. Malachi Center: Cathy Saegel has assumed the position of center director. She reported that the programs are going very well with the after school program now at 30 participants. The teen alliance program has increased from 12 to 20 members and the GED program has three people ready to take the exam. The Soup for the Soul benefit will be held on March 22 at the Brendan's Party Center. Raffle prizes are needed.
Malachi House Building permits for the expansion of Malachi House have finally be received.
Pastoral Ministry: RCIA is doing well with attendance as high as 30 people. St. Malachi is conjoined with CMS, St. Patrick, St. Coleman, and Familia
Sagrada. Sr. Francis reports she often functions as a social worker. The visiting seminarian, Martin
Skladany, has helped a great deal by acting as translater for an 85-year-old woman attempting to return to her homeland.
CSM: Represented by Gary Pritts, announcement was made of a Faith & Sharing retreat to be held at the Christian Life Center on August 15-20. It will be led by Fr. Al
Krupp. The community donated $1,000 for El Salvador earthquake relief. The world religion series has been very well attended.
