Soup for the Soul
|
|
Please join us
at our annual Soup for the Soul fundraiser on Thursday, March
13 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on St. Clair, in downtown Cleveland.
Our goal is to raise $60,000 this year to help us help others – like
children in our After School Program, young families in our Partners
for Progress Program, and the homeless in our Shower Program.
This year promises to be the best with over 20 restaurants donating their
favorite and most scrumptious soup. Other features that will make this the best
event ever are appealing appetizers, sensational celebrity servers, amazing
auctions, rousing raffles and YOU!
Besides ticket
registration, we have
three other ways you can participate:
- We have corporate
sponsorships still available. Join other generous Cleveland area
businesses in supporting our event. Please
take a look at our brochure and call 216-771-3036 with any questions
you may have or commitments you might like to make. The earlier the
commitment, the earlier we can put your company logo on all our material
so others can know you too are a part of this worthy cause and
celebration.
- We are selling
ads in our program. For a limited time, you can support our efforts
and buy an ad for as little as $50. Please
see the attached explanation.
- We are
looking for auction and raffle items of distinction to help make Soup
for the Soul 2008 an experience to remember. If you have such an
item, please call us at 216-771-3036 and tell us about it.
You can register
for tickets or learn more about any of these opportunities
by going to our website at www.stmalachicenter.org
or by calling Ginny Suhr at 216-771-3036.
Father Jim O’Donnell Fundraiser
Friday, January 18 is the annual fund raiser for Father Jim O’Donnell’s
mission: The Little Brothers and Sisters of the Eucharist. It will be held at
St. Clarence Church in North Olmsted with light snacks and an open bar. Cost
will be the same $25. For more information, contact Bill McLaughlin at
440-465-8317.
Peace Walk Anniversary
Join our dedicated walkers on Wednesday, January 16 at 7:15pm in St. Malachi’s
parking lot to participate in the 5th anniversary peace walk to Public
Square. This is not a war protest, but prayers for peace and nonviolence in our
cities and the rest of the world. Carol Anderson 440-779-1058

MINUTES CSM COUNCIL MEETING 11-1-07
Members present: Mary Ann Kunkel, Paul Kunkel, Lori Zehe, Dan Zehe, Lou Keim,
Marie James, Jim Connell, Bob Simoneau, Kay Vine, Fr. Tony, Mike Petitt, Pam
Pulizzi and Ellen McIntyre.
The meeting was called to order at 6:40PM by President, Jim Connell. Kay Vine
led all in the opening prayer and reflection.
Dan moved and Mary Ann seconded approval of the minutes of the previous
meeting. The minutes were approved.
Kay reported that a group had attended a presentation at Notre Dame College
regarding a possible marketing plan for the Mart. She said there were many
excellent ideas and that it was very worthwhile. She was unable to attend the
last Parish Council meeting; Fr. Tony said nothing from that meeting needed to
be shared.
Spiritual Development Committee chair, Jackie Bluett was not present but
sent a report from that committee. An overview of recent and planned spiritual
programs for the Community was given. We were reminded that Bill Jacob had been
a member of this committee. The Wednesday night prayer groups will continue, the
Posadas tradition will be again held in Advent, a Thanksgiving liturgy is
planned for Tuesday 11/20 and the lectures on the topic of “Being the People
of God” will continue beginning in April of 2008. We may partner with other
cluster members for Stations of the Cross in Lent
Christian Formation Committee chair, Diane Brinich was not in attendance.
Her report gave information about the NCYC to be held in Columbus 11-8 through
11-11. There is still a need for funds to sponsor this trip and a second
collection will be held on 11/4 for this purpose. The young people will be
serving as liturgical ministers and will receive a special blessing at this
liturgy. Plans are made for CF table to be set up for Welcome Sunday, 11/18.
Communications Committee chair, Pam Pulizzi stated that her committee had
not met since the last Council meeting but will be meeting soon.
Membership Committee chair, Dan Zehe reported that plans are in place for
the Welcome Sunday on 11/18 including tables set up at Coffee Hour by each
Committee to share information about their purpose and goals. Invitations will
be mailed to the 31 new members and a phone call follow-up is planned. This will
also be an “Invitation Sunday” and all are encouraged to invite friends,
neighbors, etc. to this Mass that they may learn more about CSM. E-mail was
suggested as a way to inform and encourage CSM members to promote the Welcome
Sunday. It was noted that care must be taken not to burden Dolores by allowing
this to become the norm for communications….….. possibly a “one-time test”.
This idea was voted upon and approved. Pam will work with Dolores.
Dan brought extra copies of the Roster and the Supplement .There was
discussion about the most efficient way to get information regarding CSM members’
stated committee interests into the computer, thus facilitating easier
communication.
Hospitality Committee chair, Marie James, spoke of their desire to
provide refreshments for CSM events and help is needed to do this.
Social Action Committee chair, Joan Daley, reported that the committee
has decided to have a Giving Tree for the holiday season to support the Men’s
shower and clothing program at the Center. Donations will be used as gifts at
the Homeless Men’s gathering on 12/24. Gifts of walking shoes, jeans, winter
gloves and hats, sweaters, sweatshirts and/or jackets…..all L, XL and XXL
sizes. Other ministerial projects are under consideration. Better communication
with CSM members will be pursued.
Liturgy Committee chair, Mike Petit, reminded us that we will be
celebrating the feast of St. Malachi this Sunday and that the Senior High youth
will be serving as ministers. A communion reflection will be presented by Rick
Crowe on 11/18. Mike reported that his committee is working on better
understanding the role of the Liturgy Committee and setting goals. This was
discussed and it was felt that it would be of benefit to all committees to “step
back” and look at themselves, their role and their goals. Lou Keim passed
out a draft for the Thanksgiving liturgy. Emphasis will be on the five charisms
of CSM with each one offered by a representative from a different committee.
In an effort to establish better communication, Council representatives Paul
Kunkel, Mary Ann Kunkel and Bob Simoneau met with John Delzani and Kathy Dugan
from MNM. Reporting back to Council, Paul felt we might be helpful to them in
some areas, for instance with equipment problems (so many different groups using
the equipment), i.e. who to call for resolution of a problem, etc. Also, better
coordination is needed with the Charter School regarding setting up tables and
chairs. Use of the refrigerators has presented occasional difficulty (spoiled
milk); also need to do cleanup after Malachi Center art projects. It was pointed
out that MNM is such an important ministry to CSM and the surrounding community,
it is essential that this not be lost in the clustering process and, to that end
good communication is necessary. Paul will continue to serve as liaison with MNM.
In conclusion, the thought was expressed that perhaps other ministries and
committees could look at the success of MNM in order to attract more volunteers.
A real “community within the Community” appears to have formed here. Tony
suggested that it would be helpful to put together a manual or handbook on how
things are done, notes on how to use all equipment, etc. Perhaps some regular
MNM person might be willing to compile this.
Jim pointed out that Council should pursue better connection between the
whole of CSM and each individual ministry. Some discussion followed regarding
the best possible role for Council in the staying connect to the individual
ministries. He emphasized that Council does not desire nor intend to “micro-manage”
but feels it essential to stay in better contact, particularly since the leasing
of the school building. It was suggested that every committee head discuss with
their members the advisability of taking a “step back” to assess how they
are functioning and if any changes are needed.
Kathy Burke from the Sexual Abuse Task Force attended the last Council
meeting and gave Council an update on the aims and progress of this Committee.
She reported on what they have done and tried to do thus far and their future
plans.
Treasurer, Bob Simoneau reported that the Christian Formation program
needs additional $$ for the trip to Columbus to the NCY Conference. A second
collection will be taken up on 11/4 for this purpose.
Report is to be distributed this weekend regarding current progress on the
clustering process. Jim Connell and Jackie Bluett met with the Bishop and will
write up a report on that meeting.
At 8:45 Jim Connell closed the meeting with prayer and the reflection that we
have much for which to be thankful.
Respectfully submitted, Ellen McIntyre, Interim Sec’y.
