CLUSTER PLANNING LEADERSHIP TEAM
At its Aug. 20 meeting, our Cluster Planning and Coordination
Team (CPCT) discerned its leadership, comprised of one member from each
participating parish:
Chairperson: Jim Connell, Community of St. Malachi
Vice Chairperson: Jim Armstrong, deacon at St.
Wendelin.
Secretary: Tony Coyne, St. Patrick (Bridge)
Communications Liaison: Mike French, St. Malachi Parish
Facilitator, appointed by the diocese: Pam Ziss (from
St. Matthias Parish)
The team’s coming meeting dates and locations are Sept. 20 at St. Malachi,
Oct. 10 at St. Patrick and Nov. 14 at St. Wendelin The Community of St. Malachi

“Being the People of God Series”
- Coffee Hour discussion TODAY of
last Tuesday’s talk by Conrad Gramada, PhD, Summary of talk at doors
of church. On the Sundays following each speaking event, during the coffee
hours following the 9:30 and 11 o’clock Liturgies, discussions will be led
about the information provided, how it applies to us, and what we can do. Next
talk, 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, in the hall; Joan Nuth, PhD. of John
Carroll University, on “The Theology of Grace of Karl Rahner, S.J. and its

Following our 11 o’clock Liturgy on Sunday, Sept. 16, our Coffee Hour will
be an open house down the street at Malachi Mart’s newly expanded and
redecorated facility.

Irish Famine Memorial Mass
- 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, celebrated by Fr.
Jim O’Donnell outdoors at the memorial located on the river’s west

Christian Formation
- Fall classes will begin Sunday, Sept. 9.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
1. St. Malachi Church Open House - For an hour or so between 10 a.m. and
2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, during the Superior Viaduct’s public tours, to
extend hospitality and provide information about St. Malachi’s presence in the
area and host a stop in the church if desired. To offer help call Kay Vine, 440-871-5868.
2. Monday Night Meals - There is a great need for new cooks! For

3. St. Malachi Center
- If you have one hour each week to spend helping a
neighborhood child to read, from September through the school year, you are
asked to please consider learning more about being a Reading Buddy at the Center. For information call Lynn Scott, 216-771-3036.
4. Hospice of the Cleveland Clinic - is looking for special people to
visit terminally ill patients and their families in the volunteers’ own
neighborhoods and at clinic facilities in Olmsted Township and Warrensville
Heights. Also needed are attorneys, cosmetologists and massage therapists. For

ST. MALACHI CENTER NEWS
Shower Program Supplies - Needed are family-sized toothpaste, tooth
brushes, spray deodorant, Vaseline, socks and underwear. Donations can be
brought to the Center 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday, or given to Jackie
Bluett on Sundays.
15th Annual Golf Outing - Friday, Aug. 31, Coppertop at Cherokee Hills
Golf Club, Valley City. Golf, games of skill, raffles, steak dinner. Non-golfers
invited to early dinner (2-3 p.m.) for $35. For golfing information and

Max & Erma’s Benefit - Coupons for lunch, dinner and carryouts from
the restaurant on Thursday, Sept. 13, will benefit the center, which will
receive 20% of the bills. Coupons can be photocopied and distributed freely

Help St. Malachi Center and Save Some Tax Money - Between now and Dec.
31, taxpayers over the age of 70 ½ can avoid paying income tax on IRA
distributions of up to $100,000 by donating them directly from
tax-deferred IRAs to qualified organizations such as a church or other tax
exempt organizations such as St. Malachi
Center. What this could mean is if your
required minimum distribution is $10,000 and you are in the 15% tax bracket, you
could donate the $10,000 directly to St. Malachi Center and not pay
$1,500 in federal income tax. Please note that amounts excluded from income
under this provision cannot be taken into account in determining the charitable
contribution deduction. Please consult your financial advisor for details.

Help and Hope for Children of Alcoholics
- Free workshop designed for
individuals who have felt the helplessness and hopelessness of living with
alcoholism or individuals interested in learning about the problems, 7-8:30
