The Community of St. Malachi Newsletter
|
|
“Attached to this newsletter is the Proposed CSM Budget for Fiscal Year
2007/08. This budget proposal has been approved by the CSM Finance Council
and was presented to the CSM Council at its May meeting. The CSM Council
will vote on the FY 2007/08 Budget at the June 7 council meeting. Following
is a brief explanation of the budget.
“The first column is the current FY 2006/07 Budget, which was adopted
by the CSM Council last June.
The middle three columns are the current CSM financial status as of the
end of April. The reader should note that the Year-to-Date Budget is the
annual budget times 10/12. This can be slightly different than the regular
collection figures regularly reported in the newsletter which are
week-to-week numbers. Finally, the last two columns are the proposed CSM
Fiscal Year 2007/08 Budget, and the differences between the proposed budget
and the current budget. Following are a few highlights.
The budget consists of four major areas: our share of basic operations
and salaries, our obligation to the greater Cleveland Catholic community,
the work of all of our committees, and the support of St. Malachi Center and
other related ministries. We believe this was carefully constructed and is
as accurate a proposal as possible. Each committee chair had direct input.
The proposed FY 2007/08 Budget is $204,300, an increase of $9,015 (4/6%)
over last year, and will require a 4.8% increase in Regular Sunday
Collections to bring it into balance.
“I am pleased to report that the response of the CSM to the appeal for
increased Regular Sunday Collections we made last year was very good. Our
current collections are approximately $14,000 over the same period last
year. However, as can be seen by the regular report elsewhere in this
newsletter, they are still approximately $6,000 below budget. So far this
year, as can be seen in the middle columns, our income is slightly ahead of
expenses, which is the good news, but we are really on the ragged edge. In
order to do the things we are committed to do, we are going to have to ask
CSM members to try to increase their annual contribution by five percent
(5%). If there are any questions, please don’t hesitate to call me at
440-356-5080 or talk with me at Coffee Hour this Sunday or next.” - Bob
Simoneau, CSM Treasurer.

Please note: This week, Fr. Jim O’Donnell is scheduled for knee
replacement surgery. He hopes to be able to return to St. Malachi within a few
months. Although he has not asked, it is thought that it would be best for his
recovery that he not receive visitors during its early stages. He’ll surely be
kept in our prayers.

us will be wearing something red to celebrate Pentecost Sunday
CSM CONGRATULATIONS
to Chad Garven, who graduated last weekend
from Marquette University and plans to study next at Wright Medical School. (Son
of a physician and a nurse, Chuck and Eileen Garven, why are we not
surprised at his career choice?). Congratulations, too, to Katie Starrett, upon
her graduation next month from Padua Franciscan High School with a scholarship
to attend Denison University.

Message from the CSM Spiritual Development Committee:
NEW PRAYER GROUPS FORMING
“Starting in June, we will have prayer groups at 5:30 p.m. every Wednesday
of the month, in the church
“The first week is The Presence of God, based on the Irish ‘Sacred
Space, the Prayer Book 2007’ (www.sacredspace.ie), prayer and meditation with
Scripture in the tradition of Ignatian Spirituality.
The second Wednesday of each month is Taize Prayers, a quiet,
simple way of prayer designed for people of all Christian traditions. These
meditative candlelight services include simple chants sung repeatedly, rich
silence and prayers of praise and intercession.
“The third Wednesday is Bridges to Contemplation, which uses Thomas
Merton’s writings as a starting point of discussion with another contemporary
writer. This group is given time for contemplation to identify what the writings
mean to them. The fourth Wednesday of each month is The Labyrinth. Walking
the labyrinth gives the chance to meditate on a specific prayer or thought of
one’s own choosing or as suggested by a prayer leader.
“Each of these groups will have a prayer leader. For information contact Jackie
Bluett, 440-590-0394 or jackierose@aol.com
