‘EPIPHANY’ – a ‘MANIFESTATION’
|
|
|
“Manifestation” is one definition of the word. “Public demonstration”
is another. On this feast day commemorating the Magi and their gifts, we of the
Community of St. Malachi are gifted by another “wise man,” (hope he’s not
too embarrassed by the reference). Fr. Paul Hritz last summer picked up
the church bulletin at Pope John XXIII Parish in Fort Myers, Florida and now
passes it along to us with the observation “The credo of the parish
sounds like the Community of St. Malachi’s commitment:”
|
Credo
NO MATTER WHAT YOUR PRESENT STATUS IN THE CATHOLIC CHURCH
NO MATTER WHAT YOUR CURRENT FAMILY OR MARITAL SITUATION
NO MATTER WHAT YOUR PRESENT RELIGIOUS AFFILIATION
NO MATTER WHAT YOUR PERSONAL HISTORY, AGE, BACKGROUND, RACE OR COLOR
NO MATTER WHAT YOUR OWN SELF-IMAGE OR ESTEEM
YOU ARE INVITED, WELCOMED, ACCEPTED, LOVED AND RESPECTED
AT Blessed Pope John XXIII Catholic Church.
Let us thank Fr. Paul and work and pray that the CSM continues to
manifest this commitment.
And let’s remember with thanks our principal founder, Gen McCloskey,
the personification of this commitment, for whom we celebrate Jan. 8, Sunday’s
Liturgy, the sixth anniversary of her going home to God.
CSM Membership Committee will hold an informational meeting for all
interested in membership in the Community of St. Malachi Sunday, Jan. 8,
in the hall following our 11 o’clock Liturgy. Information: Cindy DiNardo, 440-356-2980.

ST. MALACHI CENTER ACTIVITIES
The center will host a training session of “Virtus: Protecting God’s
Children” from 9 a.m. until noon Saturday, Jan. 14. The training is to
help children by learning the warning signs of abuse, how to control access to
children, how to monitor programs, how to become more aware and how to
communicate concerns. For more information or to register, call the center, 9
a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday, 216-771-3036.
Volunteer Opportunities, presented by Jackie Bluett:
We would like to extend reading assistance to all third-grade After School
Program participants, and then to fourth graders as well. We need Reading
Buddies.
Up to 50 teens (13-17) come to the center from 6-8 p.m. Wednesdays for
intellectual and team-building activities. We need mentors and team leaders for
some of these activities.
On Saturday, Jan. 21, we will have a clothing ministry from 11 a.m. until 2
p.m. Those in need will make appointments to shop the church basement. We need
help sorting donations and putting clothing and small household goods on
shelves. We need shopping assistants, especially for the mothers of big
families.
On Tuesday, Jan. 31, we will have the first Family Activity Night of the
year. We need help preparing and serving dinner and cleaning up afterwards. The
total time commitment will be from about 5-8 p.m.
If you are interested in helping with any of these activities, please call Jackie
Bluett at 216-771-3036, x15, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.

Message from the ever-present, ever-faithful, multi-talented
and ubiquitous KAY VINE:
“Because of the Sunday dates this year of Christmas, New Year’s and the
Epiphany, we will ‘undecorate’ the church on Wednesday, Jan. 14, starting at
1 p.m. Your help – even for a short time – with removing trees, lights,
garlands, wreaths and plants, and storing items, would be greatly appreciated.
“Many, many thanks to the groups/teams of helpers in the days before
Christmas who helped get the church ready for the Feast!”
“Something new among the decorations this year are the lighted wreaths on
the church pillars. They were decorated by children and teens in our Christian
Formation and St. Malachi Center programs:
- North (Creche} Side: Good Shepherd and Sheep – Preschool * Heavenly
Angels – Grade 1 Fruits of the Spirit – St. Malachi Center * Joyful,
Joyful - Grade 2
- South (Holy Family) Side: Jesse Tree – Grades 5 and 6 * Building the
Church - Grade 3 Prayer Chain - Senior High * God Loves Us - Grade 4 *
Celebration of Peace - Junior High
“The gifts shared by our children, teens and their teachers are blessings
that enrich all of us!” - K.V.

Message from Peter Toomey:
“Soup for the Soul” gives help, needs help. The annual benefit for
St. Malachi Center is Thursday, Mar. 30, at Signature at LaCentre. Can you join
the committee? A task force is contacting businesses, inviting them to sponsor a
specific portion of the benefit. Can you help reach the company you work for?
Can you identify other companies who might help? Will you commit to look around
you in the pews, your neighborhood, work, to identify people you could encourage
to help? Will you donate, sponsor, attend? We need to help the center help
families who need help! If you said ‘I support the work of St. Malachi
Center,’
will you help? See the folks who are already helping at coffee hours, or call
216-771-3036.” - P.T.
