NEWS – LOTS OF IT – FROM ST. MALACHI CENTER

From Pat McDonnell

“The Shower Program at St. Malachi Center is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 to 10 a.m. All shower necessities are provided. These include soap, towels, washcloths, tooth paste, shampoo and deodorants, and sometimes toothbrushes and razors. Every Friday we make up a weekend bag and provide these necessities for people to take home.

“We are in very short supply at this time, resulting in very skimpy weekend bags. Any donations would be greatly appreciated. I am listing suggested items and some of their sources. Welcome are small size travel items such as shampoo, conditioners and lotions provided by hotels and motels. Small bars of soap also are appreciated. Other suggested donates items:

“From Dollar General: Petroleum Jelly/Vaseline ($1); Toothbrushes (6-pack $1); Razors (10-12 pack $1); Q-Tips (300-pack $1); White Cotton Socks (8-pair pack $5); After-Shave Lotion ($1.50); Spray Deodorant ($1.50). From Marc’s: Rubbing Alcohol (45 cents); Peroxide (45 cents). Thanks for any consideration you might be able to give us. Call me if you need any more information. Pat McDonnell, 440-237-0895.

St. Malachi Center Christmas Boutique

The center needs new or “like new” gift items for mothers, fathers, teens, children and toddlers for the annual Christmas Boutique on Monday, Dec. 19. The children “shop” for them at no cost. Please bring gift items to the center by Wednesday, Dec. 14. For more information call the center. 216-771-3036.

From Jackie Bluett:

“ St. Malachi Center thanks all who have purchased the Entertainment Books and wishes you a year of happy discounted entertainment and meals! This Sunday, Nov. 27, is the last Sunday the books are available. If you still want to purchase one or more for only $25 each, please see the St. Malachi volunteers at coffee hour or call 216-771-3036.

Many years ago, St. Malachi Center adopted the Mexican Christmas tradition of Las Posadas, the remembrance of the Holy Family’s search for a room at the inn. The celebration includes active involvement in procession, prayer, song and a meal by volunteers and center participants. The festivity takes place on St. Malachi grounds. After the procession there is a light meal. This year the event is from 4:30 to about 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17. There is a sign-up sheet at the 9:30 and 11 o’clock coffee hours, or please call the center, 216-771-3036. Please join the commemoration and sign up to participate.

The committee for ‘Soup for the Soul,’ an annual fun fundraiser benefiting St. Malachi Center, is starting to plan for the 2006 event. The committee is in need of some volunteers who would be willing to help us identify and talk with some companies for corporate sponsorships and/or gifts. If you can donate a little time, please send an e-mail to st_malachi@ameritech.net or call 216-771-3036
