Celebrating Faith in God and in the Future!

Baptism of the Lord

January 9, 2005

Be sure to…

HEAD FOR THE HALL!

Right after this Sunday’s (January 9) 11 o’clock Liturgy will be a CSM “community gathering” called by our Community Council to reflect on why we come to St. Malachi, to examine our mission statement’s application today, and to learn of our upcoming Stewardship Campaign and the Community Dialogue process as it relates to use of the school building.

(You’ll find our mission statement further on at the conclusion of this newsletter)

Whether you’re a new or longstanding CSM member, your participation is important!

And please prepare for another important CSM “community gathering” Sunday, Feb. 6 immediately following our 11 o’clock Liturgy

This meeting will be conducted by our CSM Sexual Abuse Task Force to bring us up to date on the crisis in our Church. Pertinent literature from the Cleveland Diocese and from Call to Action will be attached to our Jan. 23 CSM Newsletter for prior review. (Please note: if you customarily receive this newsletter via e-mail, to receive this literature please pick up a printed copy of our January 23 issue.)

CSM WELCOME SERIES

Our Membership Committee will open an afternoon Welcome Series following our Jan. 30 11 o’clock Liturgy. The meeting will be in St. Malachi Center (across the parking lot behind the church). It will start with a lunch and sharing, followed by information about the Community of St. Malachi and the Malachi ministries. All new and prospective members are encouraged to attend this interesting introduction to the CSM. If you are already a member and have not had the opportunity to participate in the Welcome Series, you are invited too. You may register at the Membership table during coffee hour or call Rose Horning, 216-228-4253. Plan to attend. You’re sure to enjoy the food, fellowship and information!

HEARTFELT THANKS

…from me, Mary Englert, for all the love and prayers with which I was blessed during my recent illness. The “caring” came in so many ways and, for months, was a constant reminder of what CSM “community” is all about. Among those to whom I am especially grateful is Pam Pulizzi, who for seven full months did an outstanding job of producing this newsletter. My own prayer for all of you is the traditional “God be good to ya!”

…from Kay Vine, representing all of us: “Many thanks to ALL who helped clean and decorate the church for this past Advent/Christmas season: Jo, Laura and Roy Krabs; Dennis Stramel; Eddie Combs and two men from St. Malachi Center; John Karliak; Norm Brignman and “A” Team; Mary Wishnesky, Doug and Kathy Carpenter; Ann Gill; Rob, Beth, Phillip and Maven Bullock; Dave, Linda, Bryan and Geoff Kennard; Steve Gresham and Corps; Terry and Chris Jungquist; Mike May; Frank and Nadge Herceg; Andy McLinden; Lois Dingman; Pat Forkas; Joe Nagel – and those other angels whose names are known to God. (As one of our motley crew with one bad hip commented to another member with a bad hip, in the presence of two with bad knees: “Together we make a whole body and actually get something done!”) And again, special CSM thanks to Kay Vine, herself, for coordinating and leading these activities for so many years!

…from the Third Grade Christian Formation Class: “Thank you very much for bringing candy, cookies and oranges. We were able to make more than 200 St. Nicholas treats.” (Signed by) Tristan Hils, Quen Galvin, Emily Pellegrino, Catherine Mohar, Charlotte Link, Attison McCarthy, Kevin Pucci, John Speier, Kevin Turk.

Message from Rose Horning: “As a follow up to the Advent Series on Living Peace, yard signs promoting peace and non-violence are now available. They may be purchased at coffee hour with a donation of $5 per sign. They are fairly weatherproof and come with a metal bracket. Look for them as you enter the hall.” - R.H.

Join the conversation: The St. Malachi’s Vine and Branches Gospel Discussion Forum allows CSM members and St. Malachi parishioners to link to the Scripture readings for the upcoming Sunday’s Liturgy of the Word and, if so moved, to post a reflection. In addition to spiritual preparation for Sunday’s Liturgy, the forum provides a format for deepening our understanding of God’s Word and its impact in our lives through shared reflection. Visit the forum at www.stmalachi.org/parish/forum. Anyone wishing to have the forum electronically delivered each week, please send an e-mail to vineandbranchesforum@hotmail.com using the words “add forum” to the subject line.

THE COMMUNITY OF ST. MALACHI MISSION STATEMENT

Jesus Christ has called us together

as a Catholic Community in this particular place.

Through the Scriptures, Christ has given us:

A pattern for our salvation,

A living witness of God’s love for us.

Our mission therefore, is

To worship God and celebrate Eucharist together;

To love others the way we are loved by God;

To take time to comfort God’s people;

To provide refuge;

To heal;

To console;

To give hope.

As a pilgrim church continuing the presence of Christ,

We recognize the need to nurture our own personal and spiritual growth;

We desire to take more seriously the impact of the Gospel on our world;

We commit to becoming stronger witnesses to the love of God in Jesus,

Who is our hope.
