Christmas

 December 25, 2004

  MERRY CHRISTMAS….HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESUS!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

JAN 1: Solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God and World Day of Prayer for Peace: Jan 1 is the Solemn Feast of Mary as Mother of God and the World Day of Prayer for Peace. Because New Year’s Day falls on a Saturday, the obligation to attend Mass for the Holy Day is dispensed this year. St. Malachi will have 4:30 p.m. Mass on New Year’s Eve and 10 a.m. Mass on New Year’s Day. Please note that there will be a 4:30 p.m. Vigil Mass on New Year’s Day for the Feast of the Epiphany Sun Jan 2.

Epiphany Festival of Lessons and Carols: Come one, come all to our annual Epiphany Festival of Lessons and Carols. This is an afternoon of festive music, readings and prayers that has become a delightful part of our Christmas Season here at St. Malachi. A potluck with main dish provided will follow in the school hall. Please bring a side dish to share. Watch next week’s bulletin for more details.

Soup For The Soul - Save The Date - 3/3/05

For those of you who have been antsy waiting for Soup For The Soul, Good news: the date has been moved up a week from the original target! So mark your calendar for Thursday, Mar 3. Again at the lovely LaCentre Banquet Facility, but with a new contractor handling the valet parking – And the option to park your own. Both ticket purchases and additional donations can be tax-deductible for 2004 if sent to Nancy Saegel, 5248 West Park Drive, North Olmsted OH 44070. Volunteers please call Diane Dorenkott, 440-331-4663.

MESSAGE FROM JANELLE SCHUBMEHL: Many thanks to all those who both donated Christmas cards and especially to those who bought recycled Christmas cards. Together we made $500.00 for the special needs fund administered by Fr. Tony. All that came from recycled materials!! Happy New Year!! JS

MESSAGE FROM BILL JOHANSEN: Why do you come to St. Malachi? Whether you are a new member or a long-standing one, the CSM Council would like you to reflect on this question as we prepare for the Community Gathering scheduled for Jan 9, 2005 right after the 11:00 a.m. liturgy in the hall. Some of the meeting will be spent discussing this very question along with examining our mission statement and looking at how it applies to us as a community today. We will also dedicate some time to informing people on our upcoming Stewardship campaign and the Community Dialogue process as it relates to the utilization of the school building. Please plan on attending!!!

Council Meeting Highlights for December 5, 2004

(Thanks to Bill Johansen for sending these in.)

1) Cynthia Bender voted in as new Membership Chair and Bill Schubmehl voted in as new at-large member who replaces Margaret O’Gorman who resigned due to relocation. Both of these individuals will finish out the current council year only.

2) Ron Perger resigned as Communication Chair, will look to fill this position.

3) Cathy Saegel from Malachi Center spoke about the Community Dialogue process. This is a process designed to solicit ideas and feedback regarding the use of the school building once UCS leaves at the end of this school year. Cathy intends to involve the Community of St. Malachi, St. Malachi Parish and people in the surrounding neighborhood through a few different meetings that will be scheduled in January.

4) Bill Johansen and Rosemary Etheart gave an update on the Stewardship taskforce. The Stewardship campaign will take place during Lent with three specific Sundays targeted for Communication, Celebration of Gifts, and Commitment. Discussion continued about how this campaign will dovetail in with our Annual Recommitment process.

5) Discussion took place about the upcoming January 9th Community Gathering. The focus will be on the mission of the Community, why do people come to St. Malachi and how the mission applies to us today moving forward. We began the process of selecting three individuals who will speak to the mission and some of these points. Stewardship and the Community Dialogue will also be introduced at the January 9th meeting.

6) Pastor’s report highlighted the following: Becky McKenna has been accepted for certification as a Pastoral Minister for the Diocese of Cleveland.
