MESSAGE FROM STEVE DEJOHN - (sent to him by a friend) Hi All: On Jan 11 2005 I will be running in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Marathon in Phoenix, Arizona. This 26.2 mile marathon is to raise awareness and funding for the Leukemia and Lymphoma society. I will be running this race in honor of my 5 year old son Noah. At 2 years of age he was diagnosed with Leukemia. Just last month he finished 3 years of chemotherapy and is going strong.

In order to run this marathon, I need your support. The fundraising goal for the Marathon in Arizona is set at $3,700 per runner. I ask you to consider making a tax-deductible donation to support my efforts towards this important cause. A minimum of 75% of the funds I raise go directly toward patient care and research. Any amount you can give would be a tremendous help to me. If you have any questions let me know. I set up a homepage through the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. If anyone is interested you can make your donation directly online. Thank for you time and support. Sincerely, Charles Hambly www.active.com/donate/tntnoh/tntnohCHambly

Sept 7th Council Meeting Highlights

Sent in by Rosemary Gaffney Etheart (Thanks!)

Meeting was called to order with reflection on the upcoming Gospel reading, reflections were shared.

Clarification of August meeting minutes was conducted, with discussion of the terms of at-large council members, and how it may be affected by current positions and vacancies.

Enrichment was provided by Kevin McKenna who spoke about his personal journey to the deaconate and provided some historical background. He spoke about the Ministries of Liturgy, Word and Charity and how he is prepared to serve in these areas.

Discussion of the vacant membership chair was undertaken, with review of the immediate and long-term needs according to the charter. Immediate needs were identified and have been undertaken by at-large members, will cooperation of council members. Plans are in place until a new chair is identified. Several community members will be used as resources.

Stewardship as a concept and how it applies to the community as a whole as well as individuals was discussed. Members of the council (including Fr. Tony) each identified how they became part of the community as well as why they remain in the community. These reflections were discussed in the context of stewardship. Plans for further discussion and education in applying this concept to our community, especially as it applies to re-creating a sense of ownership were discussed. Some council members will be participating in formal education on the diocesan initiative on stewardship later this month. Plans for another open forum were made.

Review of the liturgy as undertaken by members of the liturgy committee was outlined. Plans for ongoing communication were put in place regarding this issue.

Joe Mohar was approved to the Finance Council. Discussion continues re: analysis of costs.
