21st Annual Outdoor Liturgy for the Community

(This is your last reminder…the next newsletter is not until Sep 12th!!!)

Sep 11, Mass at 5:00 p.m. at Starre’s Acres. Fr. Tony will be the celebrant. Potluck to follow. Main dish and drinks provided…bring a quality/nutritious side dish, own chair and plate. 4209 State Rd., Granger Twp. Maps available at the rectory or at coffee hour. Bring your drum and rattles as there will be drumming following the meal. Contact Dave Starre with questions, 440-526-3876.
 

 
 Operation Serve Internationalsends its thanks to the entire congregation for sending Emily Mohar to join them in serving Mexico City on June 19. Emily, along with 28 other team members blessed so many desperate and needy families living in large garbage dumps located in Mexico City. They provided medical, optical and dental care, fed the hungry and presented the Gospel of Christ through both word and in deed. If you are interested in more information about Operation Serve or would like to serve on a team to either Mexico or Egypt please contact Mary at the Operation Serve office. 513-939-2000.

· To all Lectors (wannabes and seasoned): Please plan now to attend a lector workshop in October (Tues, Oct 5, 7-8:30 p.m. OR  Sat, Oct 16, 11 a.m. -12:30 p.m.) in the church. You are vital to a good liturgy and we are trying to improve its quality. This is mandatory for all new lectors who wish to be on the roster. The attendance of regular lectors is strongly recommended. Contact Mike Petit (440-884-9309 or jmichaelpetit@yahoo.com) to indicate which session you plan to attend, or any questions you have.

 · Malachi Book Club  
- August meeting is Wed Aug 25th, at 7 p.m.  We will meet at the home of Sr. Marian Durkin, phone 216-328-9716.  CiCi Miller from Sacred Space will talk to us about Mary of Mandala. There are many books and articles recently published about Mary since the interest in her has increased with the publication of the book of fiction The Da Vinci Code.  There are at least two books written about the "Gospel of Mary."  Perhaps during August you can read something, or just come and listen to CiCi. 
- The meeting for September will be Wed Sep 29th (last Wednesday of the month) at 7 p.m.  We will meet at the home of Sarah and Karl Toth, phone 440-826-6125.  We will view and discuss a video that presents the collaborative work of Brian Swimme and Thomas Berry who co-authored the book The Universe Story.

· World Wide Marriage Encounter (WWME) – Cleveland Rea Marriage Encounter weekends will be held Oct 8-10 and Nov 12-14. Info or reservations call Rose or Ken Breen 440-899-9002.

· St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church 16th Annual Egyptian Festival – Aug 27-29. Free admission with plenty of food, crafts, church tours and other items available. Located at corner of E. Pleasant Valley Rd. and McCreary Rd in Seven Hills. Info 216-642-7692.

· Annual Polish Festival - St. John Cantius at 906 College Ave in the Tremont area will be holding it Annual Polish Festival Sep 3-5. Dinner and free concerts each evening. Info call 216-781-9095.

·  2004 National Young Adult Conference – Women and men in their 20’s and 30’s, single and married are invited to the 2004 Young Adult Conference Oct 15-17 at John Carroll University. For details check out www.ohioyoungadultministry.com or call Mark Delsander at 216-344-1261 ext 25.

· Golf Outing: 12th Annual St. Malachi Golf Outing will be Oct 1st to benefit St. Malachi Center!!!

· St. Colman 3rd Annual Steak Roast – Sunday Aug 22 at 2027 West 65th Street. $25.00 includes 12 oz. steak with all the trimmings, open bar and a chance on a color TV. 1:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and music and dancing well into the evening. Call the parish at 216-651-0550.

· Prayer Walk for Peace – every Wednesday, with group gathering at 7:15 p.m. in St. Malachi parking lot for prayerful walk to Public Square and further prayer. All ages welcome!

· 9th Annual Crooked Halo Benefit – Saturday Sep 25 with a ‘Swing into the City’ theme. Tickets are $50.00 toward programs and services of the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland Foundation and their Church in the City program. Information 1-800-869-6525 ext. 1004.

· Catholic Charities Memorial Gift – A gift to Catholic Charities can be a fitting remembrance of a family member who has passed away. Special Catholic Charities Memorial Gift envelopes are available by calling 1-800-869-6525 ext. 3700.

· Help for Troubled Marriages Retrouvaille has been very successful helping couples in troubled marriages stay together. A retrouvaille weekend will be held on Sep 10-12 at the Clarion Hotel in Wickliffe. $50.00 registration fee. More information call Al and Diane Miskinis at 216-481-1467.
