Margaret O’Gorman At-Large - Margaret O’Gorman has been a member of the Community of St. Malachi for almost two years, and is involved in the Stewardship Committee. She has lived in Cleveland for five-and-a-half years and chose to join the Community of St. Malachi after searching for a church that fits closely with her beliefs of community involvement and community building. Margaret grew up in the Dayton area, where her parents still live, and she is the youngest of six children. Margaret is employed in the Development Office, as a Manager of Funding Opportunities at Cuyahoga Community College, a new venture for her after 10 years in volunteer management and student development at various colleges and universities. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Business from Xavier University in Cincinnati, and a master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from the University of South Carolina. She is involved in the Cleveland Irish Cultural Festival and is a big fan of spending time in the Metro Parks whenever possible. Bill Schubmehl - At-Large Community member since April 18, 1972 (32 years). Married to Janelle. Retired high school teacher. Service to the CSM: Council member, Task Force on Sexual Abuse, past member of Membership and Adult Ed committees, Eucharistic Minister, Lector. The Community of St. Malachi (CSM) should continue to emphasize one of its founding tenets: that WE are the Church – that the members are the driving force of CSM. This philosophy, as stated by the Second Vatican Council, is energizing and freeing. CSM should work toward a fuller democratization of The Catholic Church, including full priestly rights for women and marriage option for clergy. Bill and Michelle Johansen Membership Co-Chairs - Michelle and I are looking to co-chair the Membership Committee for next year. Over the last several weeks, we have thought a lot about where we would like to contribute our time. As we get more involved at Malachi’s we both feel the call, and the need, to serve! As we answer that call, several things entered our mind. How do we balance family, community and church life? What is the best use of our time? Where can our talents be best utilized? What are the needs of CSM? After discerning all this, we felt it best to run as co-chairs for Membership. Michelle has been attending St. Malachi since childhood, I for the last 10 or so years. Michelle has been on council before as an at-Large member, helped out with Christian Formation and most recently has been sitting on the Liturgy Committee. I currently am on council as an at-large member where I have spent my time with the Communications Committee and most recently helping to edit Communio. I also currently serve as a Eucharistic Minister. Together as a family, we have all worked the back door the last couple of years and continue to do so. St. Malachi has meant a lot to our family in many ways. As we continue our journey, we ask for your blessing and prayers of support. Thank you.
Message from Gene Kramer: “The following news item recently appeared in the John Carroll University alumni magazine: ‘Dr. Doris Donnelly, a professor of religious studies and the director of John Carroll’s Cardinal Suenens Program in Theology and Church Life, has been named president of the North American Academy of Liturgy. The academy is an ecumenical and inter-religious association of liturgical scholars with the mission of promoting scholarly liturgical research. The academy has approximately 500 members.’ “Dr. Donnelly will meet with the members of the CSM Liturgy Committee at the committee’s meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, in the hall. All other interested persons are also invited and encouraged to attend. If anyone has questions or topics that they would like Dr. Donnelly to address at that time, please submit them to me so that I can compile them and forward them to her in advance of the meeting. CSM members who participated in the liturgy discussion section at our recent Open Forum probably will be particularly interested in this event.” - G.K. We know that many of them must do without things that we consider basic necessities. Keeping a home clean can become a bigger challenge when you must choose whether to buy food for your family or cleaning supplies. The residents of Lakeview have routine inspections, which they must prepare for, in order to keep their apartments. They need brooms, dust pans, mops, all-purpose cleaner, sponges, laundry soap and bleach. Can you donate an item from the list to support this effort? A box for your donation is at the front of the church. Thank you for your April donations to Procop House. Your sacrifices will help individuals “leave homelessness behind.” --Lois Westerkamp – 440-331-3705

Kathy Burke will continue to oversee the committee, and will work with Gene Kramer as well. · Stewardship Task Force – St. Patrick’s Day party was a wonderful success. Brought in $743. March collections were down, but April collections are up due to Easter collections. We are still ahead for the year. Without the cutbacks to the parish and diocese, we would be about breaking even. Ed is working on a plan and suggests we see where we are at year-end to determine if we need to give back some of the additional monies previously cut from the parish and diocese. · Pastor’s Report - The back side of the report passed out during the meeting describes the upcoming construction. Gene Kramer suggested we send a letter of thanks from the CSM to Andy Turner for all the work he has done. Luis Gutierrez will construct a letter. · Christian Formation - Specific guidelines have been developed for screening all volunteers, including more formal application process, background checks, supervision of teenage instructors. Christian Formation is working on this implementation. Fr. Tony will provide the documentation to the Task Force on Sexual Abuse. MALACHI “A road repair-construction project for West 25th and Detroit, Vermont Avenue and the Superior Viaduct is underway and will last until August. It is a major project which will involve reconfiguring the West 25th and Detroit intersection, re-paving West 25th in front of the church, closing the Superior Viaduct, widening Vermont and creating new parking in front of the County Engineers’ building. “Within a few weeks, it will affect the availability of parking, especially next to the church on Vermont. We will keep you informed through announcements, flyers and the newsletter about the stages of the project as they unfold. We ask your patience and cooperation to make this as easy and painless as possible.” - AJS

Hope today we have the right number of “l’s” in “O’Neill?” O’Neil? How does that auld song go: “If you knock the ‘l’ out of Kelly, he’ll …?” Peter Tooney would know… M.E.)
