CSM COUNCIL MEETING HIGHLIGHTS
(Presented by Joe Pulizzi, Communications Chair)
The council met Sunday, Nov. 9, in St. Malachi Center, chaired by Council
President Luis Gutierrez.
Sheila Moorman spoke to the council regarding her letter in Communio. She
apologized for any hurt that she caused the members of the Community of St.
Malachi. She also stated that she feels that the CSM and St. Malachi Parish can
move forward together for our common good. Her comments were warmly received by
members of the council.
ACTION ITEMS
· Thanksgiving Eve Mass: Stephanie Taylor-Ayers was
part of the Open Forum group that discussed this item over possible changes to
the Thanksgiving Eve Mass. There was a concern over attendance issues at that
Mass. It was recommended to take the issue back to the Liturgy Committee to
decide on whether a change is needed for next year, not this year. For this
year, the schedule will remain intact.
· Process of looking at why people are leaving the CSM
– UPDATE: Cynthia Bender finalized the list of former members, and updated the
list with additions from Karen Duffy and Bill McLaughlin. Cynthia will re-send
the list. Council members are responsible for looking at the list and making any
other additional updates, and getting these back to Cynthia.
All updates will be made by Nov. 23 and at the December meeting council will
decide on an action to go forward with a process.
Fr. Tony Schuerger suggested that a formal proposal be created to keep
council on target with this project. Gene Kramer will head the committee to
construct this proposal, with Nicky Stary, Joe Wegrzynowski and Bill Schubmehl
assisting.
· Next Open Forum - The date is tentatively set for
Feb. 15, 2004.
DISCUSSION ITEMS
· Open Forum – comments/observations. Overall, there
have been many positive comments about the Oct. 19 event. What’s next? A
follow-up for the “Lay Directed” group will be at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21 at
Duane and Rose Horning’s house. Kathy Burke’s “Love One Another” group
wanted to have a healing service. Also, developing a “nametag Sunday.” No
date set yet on that committee. Bill Johansen also brought up the issue of
having CSM members regularly making post-Communion reflections. We have already
started having CSM members make the announcements. Need to promote more in
Communio
· Confab Meetings - Initial Confab meetings took place
over the last month as introduction meetings. Each group will have two
subsequent meetings. Fr. Tony noted that these teams will be called MLT
(Ministry Leadership Teams).
· Finance Update - Cynthia Bender passed out a letter
from Marianne Kerr to the entire CSM Council. Marianne’s letter included a
resignation from her position as CSM treasurer and her seat on council. Council
accepted the resignation. It was moved that a “thank you” letter for the
work Marianne completed be circulated among council members for their
signatures. Luis Gutierrez will be contacting the Finance Council to meet this
week on who can handle CSM finances. Any suggestions from CSM members will be
appreciated.

REPORTING ITEMS
· CSM Task Force on Sexual Abuse - Kathy Burke said
the task force has decided to write a follow-up statement with regard to
diocesan financial accountability and the CSM’s concern about the issue. Kathy
and the task force members are looking for council’s support to send the
statement to
Bishop Anthony Pilla.
Discussion and voting will take place at the next council meeting, scheduled
for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, in St. Malachi Center.
Also passed out was a timeline on implementing the diocesan policy for the
safety of children. Goal is for the CSM to be fully compliant by August 2004.
Training is a part of that compliance.
Joe Pulizzi, Communications Chair
