 New Date! New Location!

ANNUAL COMMEMORATION OF THE MARTYRS

sponsored by the

InterReligious Task Force on Central America (IRTF)

This will be the 23rd commemoration of the martyrdom of the four churchwomen in El Salvador and it now also honors thousands of others who have lost their lives in pursuit of peace and justice in Central America and Colombia. Most recent of these is Columbian Archbishop Isaias Duarte, assassinated in March 2002.

The four churchwomen were Clevelanders Jean Donovan and Sr. Dorothy Kazel, OSU, and Maryknoll Sisters Maura Clarke and Ita Ford. They were raped and murdered in 1980 by El Salvadoran soldiers trained by the U.S. Army. (Some CSM members will recall that Jean Donovan used to come to Mass here at St. Malachi.)

LET’S HEAR IT, TOO… for the Oct. 19 CSM Open Forum leadership team, Chris Schenk, Gene Kramer and Cynthia Bender, as well as for the outstanding facilitator, Sr. Pat Kozak, who led us in a most encouraging “experiment in listening and learning.” Participants generally came away with respect for the past, higher hopes for the future and a willingness to work for renewal. Thanks, too, to Mary Piar’s crew for the refreshments. ( Those unable to make this forum will want to try to include the one next spring in their plans.)
