All are invited to participate in a session of response to the draft of
The Diocese of Cleveland
Policy on Sexual Abuse of Minors
proposed by the special commission led by William Denihan
|
All, too, are urged to carefully read the proposed policy draft, complete the attached response form and bring it to the meeting. Other ways to respond are identified by Fr. Tony Schuerger in his message attached to the draft, which is and has been available at the church doors.
Feedback from tonight’s meeting will be presented by St. Malachi’s six allotted representatives to a
regional hearing session of the Denihan commission scheduled
for this Tuesday, Aug. 27,
at St. Ladislas in Westlake.
A follow-up St. Malachi open meeting then will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, in the rectory.
The CSM Council member heading this project task force is Kathy Burke, 216-228-6787.
She wants it noted that, for tonight’s meeting,
child-care will be provided!

Message from
Dolores Sullin:
"Last year we started the CSM E-Mail Alert service at St. Malachi for funeral
notifications and prayer requests. The system we implemented appears to be working well and with favorable comments. (They are appreciated!)
"Since the last sign-up in April 2002, several members indicated they wished to be included in e-mailings of both the Community of St. Malachi Newsletter and of our Communio. This was implemented approximately two months ago. Some members appear on one, two, or all three group mailing lists. If you would like to be added to any of the three, please contact me at
dasas@nccw.net
"You should know that once you’re on one, two, or all three of these lists, you remain so until you ask to be removed. This is just for simplicity. Even if you indicate next year that you do not want to be in a group mailing when you recommit, it would still be appreciated if you would ask to be removed through my e-mail:
dasas@nccw.net
"Some further points:
- Please provide your first and last name as well as your e-mail address.
- When changing your e-mail address, please include the address in the message text as well as your name.
- If you wish removal from a list, name which of the three mailing you no longer want. This, again,
would require your name as well as the e-mail address.
- Since I may not recognize your e-mail address – and to avoid accepting unknown messages containing
viruses – please use an identifiable word in the ‘subject’ area – i.e. ‘CSM’ or ‘Newsletter’ or ‘Communio.
"These are simple things that make life easier for me." - D.S.

CSM CONGRATULATIONS
to Sr. Pat Burke, CSJ, who this month is celebrating her Golden Jubilee as a Sister of St. Joseph.
CONGRATULATIONS, too,
to Fr. Tony Schuerger, who tomorrow will celebrate yet another anniversary of his birth. (Not the golden one. That was last year. Remember? It’s no secret. Verification can be found on page 171 of the official Directory of the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland, 2002)
And a CSM WELCOME, with THANKS, to Patrick Burns. The Jesuit Retreat House newsletter
introduces him as its new development director and notes that "Pat has spent his career raising money for ecumenical world hunger and youth programs for Boston’s Project Bread, Church World Service, WSEM, and the volunteer center in Lorain." A recently committed CSM member, Pat helped hugely with entertainment at our St. Malachi picnic last Sunday. THANKS as well to Mary Piar and her
other helpers for a happy indoor/outdoor picnic event!

Message from Luis Gutierrez:
("The Vibrant Parish Life Coordinating Committee, chaired by
Rosemarie DeJohn for the CSM and John Daley from St. Malachi Parish, continues to meet and discuss how to increase the vibrancy of St. Malachi. Look for more detailed reports as this unfolds.
Below is an excerpt from Bishop Anthony Pilla’s pastoral letter. To examine the Vibrant Parish Life initiative more closely, click on the links on either the CSM or parish home pages.)
"’Discernment is a gift to the Church so that God’s will might be discovered in the midst of concrete,
daily reality. Under the influence of the Holy Spirit we are charged to find new opportunities for the
mission of Jesus to be accomplished in and through us. Discernment is needed for us to faithfully meet
the present challenges as we plan for the future of parish life. If the Church is to flourish in the 21st century, we must offer, maintain, and support a vibrant parish life for every Catholic.’ – Bishop Anthony M. Pilla" - L.G.
