12th Sunday in Ordinary Time

 June 23, 2002

ANNOUNCEMENTS…ANNOUNCEMENTS…ANNOUNCEMENTS…

I.  About new COMMUNIO dates: The CSM Communications Committee has decided to change the Communio publication date from the second to the fourth Sunday of every month. This will allow for more timely reporting of CSM Community Council meeting decisions and actions. The deadline for each issue now will be the second Sunday each month. Except…as is customary, there will be no Communio in July. So, next issue date: Aug. 25. Next deadline: Aug. 11. Material for publication still should be sent to Luis Gutierrez (editor) or Dan Alaimo (editor-in-chief) or Joe Pulizzi (managing editor). Their postal and e-mail addresses, and their phone numbers, regularly appear on the last page of Communio and are in the CSM roster as well. Their tasks are made easier with material submitted by e-mail or on disk. And, as the Communio masthead notes, "All viewpoints of interest to our Community in the context of our journey of faith are welcome here. Viewpoints are those of the writers and not necessarily the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church." The editors urge CSM members to avail themselves of this medium to share their wisdom, their concerns, their spirituality and their love.

(Please note that this CSM Newsletter will continue to appear the second and fourth Sundays of every month, with deadlines one week in advance.)

The Communications Committee also welcomes aboard the new editor of the CSM Calendar of Opportunities, Lisa Diomede, and thanks Bill McLaughlin for his past service in this regard. Thanks are ever due, too, to Judy Bozell, Carol Lavelle and Ellen McIntyre (copying and attachments), Pam Pulizzi (collating and stapling volunteers), Celeste Grunwald (hand-out volunteers), Mike May (St. Malachi web site) and Dolores Sullin (e-mail prayer alerts. And by the way, she asks that it be announced again that these are emergency notifications meant to include deaths, illnesses and other urgent prayer requests regarding members, former members, and their loved ones. Requests for such notices should be made to Judy or Carol at the rectory, who will then pass them along to Dolores.)

II.  About St. Malachi PHOTO DIRECTORY– from Gary Pritts: "A photo directory is being published and all Community of St. Malachi and St. Malachi Parish members are invited to participate. A beautiful, full-color directory, plus an 8" x 10" photo will be provided for free to all who participate. You may sign up to have your photo professionally taken July 26-27 in the school hall, or July 29-Aug. 3 on the 2nd floor of the school building. Sign-up, which began last Sunday, will continue after Mass today and will conclude next Sunday, June 30. Photos will be professionally taken by LifeTouch Studios, and you will have an opportunity to purchase them at competitive prices if you wish. (Absolutely no obligation – or pressure – everyone gets one free 8" x 10".)

"We want St. Malachi to be even more welcoming than it already is by helping people get to know one another. For years, our roster has been an important and vital tool for community building. This directory will go even further – it will help new members become acquainted and will help longtime members who know faces but don’t know names. Please sign up! Call Mary Helen Meehan at 216-228-9423 with any questions."

III.  About NEW ST. MALACHI TASK FORCE for the Universal Health Care Action Network’s

    "FAITH PROJECT in CUYAHOGA COUNTY"

Diane and Jim Lardie are well known to many here at St. Malachi for their long history of dedicated social service and activism. When Diane retired recently as director of the Universal Health Care Action Network

(UHCAN), which she had been instrumental in expanding throughout the country, she by no means retired from the movement. Hence we have today an ecumenical "Faith Project in Cuyahoga County" bringing together "voices of faith…to proclaim that health care for all is a moral imperative." (This proclamation has twice been voiced by the U. S. Catholic Conference, the national association of bishops.") Part of a countrywide effort, the local project is funded by the Sisters of Charity Foundation.

The faith project’s current focus is to gain support for the Health Care Access Resolution, introduced Apr. 4, 2001, directing Congress to enact legislation by October 2004 to guarantee that every person in the United States, regadless of income, age, or employment or health status, has access to comprehensive health care.

At their June council meetings, the leadership of both the Community of St. Malachi and St. Malachi Parish voted to endorse the UHCAN Faith Project. They join, among others, the Congregation of St. Joseph Sisters; Humility of Mary Sisters; Annunciation Parish; Greater Cleveland Community United Church of Christ; Friends Meeting, Athens; Community of Christ the Servant; Heights Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and St. Philip Neri Project H.O.P.E. The project director is Rev. Linda Walling.

The St. Malachi UHCAN Faith Project Task Force will be co-chaired by Mary Englert (216-228-8417) and Marge Gibbons (216-226-8820). Volunteers from both parishes are asked to participate. Specific activities are still in development but, meanwhile, support is invited for a prayer vigil described on page 4 of this newsletter.

IV.  About FR. PAUL HRITZ’s latest move – he now assists with pastoral care at Jennings Hall. His address: 10202-B Granger Rd., Garfield Heights, OH 44125. E-mail: pjhloh@aol.com

V.  About INFANT BAPTISMS - Baptisms will be part of the CSM 11 o’clock Liturgies on these coming dates: July 7 and Oct. 13, 2002 – Jan. 12 and Apr. 27, 2003. To arrange a baptism call Pam Pulizzi, 216-941-5054.
