Any Irish in Your Heritage? Anybody? Anything? The Irish American Archives Society has been established to preserve the history of the Irish settlement in this northeast Ohio area, one of the largest immigrant groups to do so. (Three CSM members are on its board of trustees: Jerry Sheehan, Louis Finucane, Mary Englert) This mission is in cooperation with the Western Reserve Historical Society, where the archives are maintained. During coffee hours following our 9:30 and 11 o’clock Liturgies next Sunday, Feb. 3, there will be a display from the IAAS collection and its new archivist, Regina Costello, herself relatively recently arrived from Erin, will be on hand to answer questions. Maybe yours is among the many attics storing historically significant papers, letters, pictures and artifacts that would be welcome additions to the collection. And this may be your opportunity to safely preserve such for your own future generations. St. Malachi Parish, of course, was established in 1865 by Irish immigrants. Therefore, Fr. Tony Schuerger, himself a recognized historian, requests that any memorabilia directly associated with the parish be preserved in parish and diocesan archives. You can check with himself about this. PLEASE Consider Yourself Thanked! PLEASE! We’ve a bit of a problem here. The Christmas season work of cleaning, decorating and un-decorating the church, inside and outside, involved more than 300 hours over five days and the participation of some 135 people! And that does not involve the planning, organizing, purchasing, repairing, liturgical, musical and other preparation. (Or the delivery of poinsettias to elderly or homebound hi-rise residents, or help with Christmas activities for children at St. Malachi Center or volunteer services at Malachi Mart etc.) Those 135 people included both CSM and parish members and friends, and some of them took part all five days while others gave time anywhere from one to four. In age, they ranged from seniors to teens and even younger. It was "community" at its finest. But to list who, what, when and where is the problem. (The "why" is easy. They did it for love. Love of God and for the rest of us.) Granted, it’s a problem for which all of us can be grateful. So let’s all solve it with a little prayer of thanksgiving for one another, but especially for those super-generous 135. (And for Kay Vine, who did her customary oversight from a wheelchair and with a walker. Let a little thing like a broken appendage keep her down? No way…)
CSM SYMPATHY AND PRAYERS CSM HEALTH DEPARTMENT CSM WELCOME to the three infant boys baptized during a recent 11 o’clock Liturgy: Anthony John, son of John and Kandice Gerace; Joshua William, son of Joe and Pam Pulizzi; and Cormac Hollis, son of Mark and Janet Nolan. And CSM CONGRATULATIONS to Lou Keim, upon the recent birth of triplets to her son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Jackie Keim. The babies are Robbie, Noah and Amanda. Says Lou: "One day in January I was the grandmother of nine, and the next day I was grandmother of 12." And the eldest of them all is only nine, by the way. Lou finds this no problem when they visit. "They’re all so busy with each other, it gives the adults a chance to talk." (How characteristic of the managerial skills of this mother of four who was an early CSM Council president and has continuously shared those skills with us ever since.) * * * * * * * * *
