A Message from
Kay Vine:
"Added to the Advent décor of the church this weekend are some symbols and Old Testament names which represent the spiritual heritage of Jesus. These are borrowed from the Jesse Tree tradition in which a tree is decorated with ornaments portraying Jesus’ lineage. There are many publications – even at the library – which could help you create your own traditions of prayer and scripture to prepare for the Holy Season of Christmas. Also, you are welcome to bring poinsettias – any color – for church decoration and distribution to homebound neighbors. Please bring them to church Dec. 15-16, through Dec. 22." - KV
A Message from
Mary Carol Lucic, Christian Formation Chair:
"Thank you once again for your generous financial and spiritual support for our High School Christian Formation students’ trip to Indianapolis this weekend for the National Catholic Youth Conference. These students had a busy (and fun) summer with all their fundraising projects here at St. Malachi. These included the Godspell performance, selling ice cream during the Contra dance, bake sale and Avon sales. Appreciated too are the generous contributions from the
St. Malachi parish and community councils. Each of these students and their chaperones will be grateful for your prayers for their safe and spirit-filled weekend at the conference: Katie Alaimo, Margaret Aylward, Nick Aylward, Margaret Brinich, Rachel Fichter, Maura Garven, Rebecca Graham, Bryann Kennard, Geoff Kennard, Megan Lucic, Gary Pritts, Frank Pucci, Rachel Schiros, Sarah Schiros, Erin Sweeney, Mike Sweeney and Megeen Tube. Their Christian Formation teachers and chaperones are Director of Religious Education Karen Duffy, Rick Zimmerman and Jennifer DeJohn." - MCL

This ‘n That from the Editor
- The first of three "Services of Word and Song" was held this past Monday, from 5 to about 5:20 p.m. in the
church. Participants included people from the streets, the neighborhood, Monday Night Meal guests and volunteers, St. Malachi Center staff and children, and members of both our parishes. People of all ages and circumstances sharing love of God and one another. The rousing, Gospel-style music was led by members of Second Calvary Straight Up Evangelistic Ministries. I found the service very moving. Others expressed to me the same reaction. Particularly touching was the tribute paid by one man, who acknowledged to the gathering that it was thanks to the food and welcome he had first received here at St. Malachi some 10 years ago that he had been encouraged and no longer was homeless. The next two "welcoming" services will be at 5 p.m. tomorrow, Dec. 10, and the following Monday, in church. Do come. You’ll be glad you did.
- The Cleveland Play House Restaurant is featuring a "Brunch with Santa Claus" these Sundays before Christmas.
Unbeknownst to most of us, the Jolly Old St. Nick involved, as he has been for some years, is one of our own. We’d never dream of revealing his identity, but the next time you see Drew McAuliffe, ask him for a "Ho, Ho, Ho!"
- All who are enslaved by computers know that they have varied means of exercising control. As I was about to start
putting together this newsletter, the Monster in My Kitchen copped out on me. My hero Mike May, as friend and co-chair of our CSM Communications Committee, took the thing home overnight and brought it back next morning in a
chastened and functioning condition. Have no idea what he did to it, but he does. So what can I say? I love you, Mike!
