OUR LATEST ‘MALACHI MOMENT’…
The late, beloved Lucille Schroeder, a Community of St. Malachi charter member and longtime office coordinator, introduced the term "Malachi Moment" to pinpoint very special, usually unplanned CSM happenings. All who participated in last Sunday’s extra-crowded 11 o’clock Liturgy will likely not soon forget our first coming together following that Tuesday of tragedies. The tears and the hugs spoke so eloquently of our love and gratitude for one another and our love and compassion for our suffering sisters and brothers. It was truly a "Malachi Moment." So, Rebecca Rocco and I want to share a couple of other very moving moments. She was approached by one of our backdoor visitors with the request: "Lady, will you do something for me?" A little hesitantly she asked what he wanted. His emphatic response: "Do something nice for yourself today!" And as I was leaving the rectory just before Mass, a fellow sitting on the front steps with his coffee and doughnuts greeted me with: "You okay today, Ma’am? You feeling okay?" My somewhat facetious response was: "Yes, probably better than I deserve." He called after me, loudly: "No! You deserve it! You wanna know why I say that? You wanna know why?’ I turned to look into a pair of eyes glowing with sincerity as he declared: "You deserve it ‘cause you people take care of us!" (I found myself actually shouting back: "And you deserve that!") During this time of visibly shared love and sorrow – locally, nationally and internationally -- Rebecca and I wanted to share these assuring "moments" to remind, and be thankful, that here at St. Malachi, love is ever a two-way street.— Mary Englert

Message from Sue Colson:
"A big ‘thank you!’ I am celebrating the 10-month anniversary, as of Labor Day, of my last radiation treatment. The support I received from the CSM made a big difference in how I survived the ordeal. Lots of hugs for the Monday Night
Mealers, a special circle of love within the wider CSM circle of love. I love and thank you all!" – S.C.
Message from Mary Carol Lucic:
"Are you busy reading The Holy Longing? A flyer will be
circulating soon about small group discussions planned in October. It isn’t essential that you complete the book by then, but you’ll want to read enough to get an understanding of it. Green ribbons are available and being worn by those who are reading the book. See someone wearing a green ribbon at Mass? Ask them about Holy Longing.. Tell them you are reading it too. One Church/One Book."
Meeting, 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, home of Ellen McIntyre, (440-777-7724). Discussion of Casey Stengel’s month in Uganda, with maps, photos and items of village life she experienced there.
Message from Rebecca Rocco:
"I’ve received a mailing from Casa Materna, which aids high-risk pregnant women in Nicaragua and has helped close to 6,900 in its ten years. They are concerned about the desperate hunger of the coffee workers and have recently lost much funding. They sent along
an Internet address (www.maryknoll.org/Global) which offers much information which may (should) interest CSM members. We need to educate ourselves and take action on justice issues in the world, as recent events highlight. Peace." – R.R.
