Once, and Again

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE GODSPELLERS!

Happily, our Senior High Christian Formation Class played to a full house/church
Apr. 29, and it was to a houseful/churchful of thoroughly delighted and rightly enthusiastic listeners. The performance of songs based on the Gospel of Matthew climaxed a year of study of that gospel. And the performance was outstanding! To the credit of:

The Cast: Margaret Aylward * Rachel Fichter * Nick Aylward * Meg Brinich * Katie Alaimo * Katie Burke * Rob Galo * Jack Galo * Chad Garven * Bryan Kennard * Erin Sweeney * Megeen Tube * Pat Leitch * Gary Pritts * Geoff Kennard * Rachel Schiros
Sarah Schiros The Musicians: Frank Pucci * Bryan Kennard The Crew: Nikki Trapp
Megan Lucic * Leanne Duge * Jack Galo The Adults: Karen Duffy * Rick Zimmerman Jen DeJohn * John Lucic * Ken Walrath * Steve Puckett * Roy West * Kathy Burke

Pete Burke (Editor’s Note: it was somewhat of a revelation to many that night that we have such a talented group of young people among us. They’re seen coming and going quietly on Sundays, some since their very early childhoods. Karen Duffy, our director of religious education, Mary Carol Lucic, Christian Formation chair, and the other adults involved should be thanked by all of us for providing such an opportunity for these youngsters to exercise, enhance and share their talents. – Mary Englert)

A HAIL AND FAREWELL…

…the latter to Jan Stefanica, who has spent the past two months here at St. Malachi , and the former to Peter Soltis, the third Slovak seminarian to spend time with us in his preparation for the priesthood. Peter is from Celovce in the Diocese of Kosice, where he has finished three years of studies at a seminary coincidentally named Borromeo. He is the son of Peter and Margita Soltis, and has a sister, Miroslava, and a brother, Thomas. We hope he finds his stay both fruitful and enjoyable.

 Message from Mary Carol Lucic:

"Next meeting of the CSM Book Discussion Group will be to discuss ‘At Home in Mitford’
by Jan Karon, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, at the home of Aggie Hoskin, (216-221-9415). In June, at Roseann Kaminsky’s home, we will discuss ‘A Lesson Before Dying’ by Ernest Gaines. This is the book the entire city of Rochester, NY, chose to read and discuss all around the town. ‘Us Bookies’ would like to propose that our entire Community of St. Malachi read the same book and be prepared to share opinions and thoughts.

It could be an exciting medium to bring us together in untraveled ways. The idea is to use a book as a vehicle to talk about issues that affect our community. It could be a community-building project as well as a reading project for all of our generations. We would organize a communal fire around which friends and strangers warm to a conversation about a work of literature. Who wants to suggest the particular book? In July we plan a potluck feast while viewing the movie "Babette’s Feast" at Mary Laubenthal’s home in Hinckley, and in August we will share a favorite C. S. Lewis book entitled ‘Surprised by Joy’ at Sarah Toth’s home in Middleburg Heights. Detailed addresses will be published in the CSM Newsletter as each month approaches. If you have any questions or suggestions, please call me at 216-221-5017." -- MCL

A Message from Chris Schenk:

"FutureChurch needs volunteer callers and clerical workers for its annual Pentecost Phon-a-Thon to be held 6-9 p.m. May 14, 15, 16, 17 and 21.
(Free pizza will be served!) Please see me at the Coffee Hour if you can sign up. Or call 216-228-0869.

"Also, FutureChurch greatly needs regular volunteers to help with such simple clerical tasks as folding, stuffing and copying; we have a huge demand for our resources! Our offices are located on Cleveland’s west side, in St. Mark rectory, with easy access to I-90. If you could give 2-4 hours per week or per month, please call Sarah Mathews at 216-228-0869. Thanks!:" - CS, CSJ
