Terry and I will be available to assist the new officers in the transition, if needed. This year continuously has taught me that God uses our imperfections as well as our talents in the service of God’s people. May the CSM truly rejoice and be renewed in the future, beginning with this new leadership for 2000-2001."

AMEN! And SINCERE CSM THANKS TO ALL OF THE ABOVE!

More Good News

About the CSM PERSONAL NEEDS FUND Benefit…

The new fund’s first benefit, held June 17, was exceptional in many ways. It was a cook-out in the picnic area adjacent the docked submarine USS Cod, near the foot of East 9th Street. Organizers were Fred Leonard, Mary Masterson, Angelo Privitera and Paul Farace, curator of the Cod. Mary reports the amount raised -- $1725 – was thanks to the generosity of many. Besides the partyers, these include Angelo, who donated all the food and, with Betsy McKnight, arranged its service; the cooks, Bill McLaughlin, Norb Parkowski and Jim Majewski; entertainment leader Chuck Kandrach (a.k.a. "Chuck the DJ"), who donated his talent and equipment, and Paul Farace, who conducted tours of the submarine.

Mary Masterson reminds that the fund is established to assist with personal financial needs of members or people affiliated with the CSM, and that it is administered with confidentiality by the pastor, Fr. Tony Schuerger. Contributions by check should be made out to the Community of St. Malachi, with the notation "Personal Needs Fund" on the memo line.

[Editor’s Note: This event was a hoot! Sorry for those who missed it. Just picture CSM members competing wildly in dance and hula hoop contests! (That Ilse Strnisha’s a real swinger!) Imagine raffle prizes geared to personal needs, including deodorants and toilet paper. Envision some 20 or more CSM members making like Broadway as they kicked up their heels in a line atop the Cod’s hull! Such a number performed during WWII would have negated the use of torpedoes. Enemies could have been "won over"…or scared off! – M. Englert]
