It’s a substitute!!!

Sorry to disappoint all you Mary Englert fans out there, but I ain’t her. Contrary to rumor, Mary is not on strike and is instead taking a well-deserved issue off. This is your humble (most of the time) Communio editor, Dan Alaimo, trying my hand at the Community Newsletter. Seven years working on this committee and this is my first time doing it. Amazing that I’ve been able to avoid it for so long. Good thing Mary left me plenty of material - mostly all I have to do is copy and paste. Also a good thing Luis Gutierrez has the actual editing and layout of Communio so well in hand that I have the flexibility to do this.
But be assured, Mary will be back for the next issue of the Newsletter on June 25; deadline June 18
Communio
publishes next on July 23; deadline July 9.

For immediate action, please:

Here’s a checklist of three needs for the consideration of Community members.

Cod Party

Recommitment

Web Page

The new CSM Personal Needs Fund for emergency purposes was announced last month, but is still in need of support. To benefit this fund, there will be a party from 5 p.m. until dark, Saturday, June 17, aboard the U.S.S. Cod, docked near the foot of East Ninth St. Tickets are $20 - in advance, please! - and are available at Coffee Hour. Nautical attire suggested! Details: Fred Leonard, 440-331-8325 (day). Don’t be left out -- or be unlisted. There are a little more than 400 members that have submitted their 2000-2001 Recommitment forms. If you have not turned yours yet, please do so during the month of June in order that we will be able to publish the new roster before fall. If you are not certain that you have not submitted your form, please call Bill McLaughlin at 440-234-6362. Online home needed: We have an immediate need to find a new server for our web site, www.stmalachi.org (see "The Malachi File" in Communio for more details and a brief explanation). If anyone knows of an internet service that might consider extending St. Malachi’s a discount, please contact Webweaver Mike May (stmalachiweb@catholic.org) or Dan Alaimo (alaimo@bigfoot.com) as soon as possible.

St. Malachi Looks to the Future!
Rejoice and Renew
is a future planning process being shared by the Community of St. Malachi
and St. Malachi Parish. The two councils will meet today to pilot this
"appreciative inquiry" process. Soon there will be town hall meetings
with everyone welcome and invited to participate.

Thank you from UCS

Dear Father Tony and Parishioners:
On behalf of the students of Urban Community School, I thank you for saving your Giant Eagle receipts for UCS. "Apples for Students" enables schools to purchase equipment for student use. Through your generosity, UCS collected $50,000 in cash-register receipts and received a digital camera and an overhead projector. Both were much needed items! Please not that we also collect "Box Tops for Education" from General Mills cereals. Again, thank you for remembering our students.

Sincerely,
Sister Maureen Doyle
Director, Urban Community School
