Third Sunday in Lent March 26, 2000

The Annual Meeting of the Community of St. Malachi is
just two weeks away…

Sunday, April 9

in the school hall, right after the 11 o’clock Liturgy

As usual, elections to the CSM Council will take place. Council President Rebecca Rocco
asks: "Please, prayerfully consider running for one of the Member At-Large positions."
For information, see or call her (440-838-8767) or Terry Hayes (440-808-9726),
Dick Gibbons
(330-716-9624), or Jennifer Hofford (216-631-1134).

Rebecca adds: "While we have been learning how we got here on 25th Street, and why we are here, we need good leadership for our future here. The best years are yet to come – God willing – and with your help."

A light breakfast will be served prior to the meeting. If you can help with the breakfast or the meeting, see or call Terry Hayes, who is both council vice president and hospitality chair.

Another Message from Rebecca Rocco:

"As President of Council, I wish to express the appreciation of the CSM to the Anniversary and Spiritual Development committees – and to planners Pat Forkas, Bill and Kathy Jacob, Dick Gibbons, Jennifer Hofford and Frank Schiros – for the Vatican II Series. An important feature of our 25th Anniversary Celebration, this series of presentations, reflections and study can lead to revitalizing the CSM and deepening our understanding of ourselves as a church family and People of God, here at W. 25th and Detroit and in the universal community of faith.

"There was a great outpouring of CSM and St. Malachi Parish members, and others, for the Mar. 12 talk by Fr. Paul Hritz and the Mar. 19 presentation by Fr. Lou Trivison. Close to 200 were in attendance for each. Younger members of the CSM have said that they want to learn about the reforms of Vatican II now, from an adult perspective, and older members want to reflect on the reforms which led them and others to respond courageously with the formation of the CSM more than 25 years ago."

A Message from Bill McLaughlin:

"The Membership Committee is now distributing CSM Individual Commitment Forms for the 2000-2001 year during the coffee hours, until Apr. 9. Please pick up yours and return it soon to the rectory or in the collection basket." – BM

And a Postscript from JoAnn Kramer: "It is important that each person or family return the green financial pledge card distributed with the commitment forms. The cards are the only way we have to estimate our income for next year, and are needed for budget planning. They are anonymous – and are detached and sent on to me if returned with the commitment form. Or they can be dropped off or mailed to the rectory – they’re already addressed – or simply dropped into the collection basket. Thanks" - JK

A Message from Kay Vine, Chair of the Anniversary Steering Committee:

"The Vatican II Series is a dream come true for the Anniversary Steering Committee and for the current and past two CSM Councils. We have wanted this for two to three years!" - KV

And at Kay’s request, we remind you once again of the following:

COMMUNITY OF ST. MALACHI MISSION STATEMENT

Jesus Christ has called us together as a Catholic Christian Community in this particular place.
Through the Scriptures, Christ has given us: a pattern for our salvation; a living witness of God’s love for us.
Our mission, therefore, is to worship God and celebrate Eucharist together;
to love others the way we are loved by
God;
To take time to comfort God’s people; to provide refuge; to heal; to console; to give hope.
As a pilgrim church continuing the Presence of Christ: We recognize the need to nurture our own personal and
spiritual growth; we desire to take more seriously the impact of the Gospel on our world; we commit to becoming stronger witnesses to the love of
God in Jesus, who is our hope.
