Once in a while, a reminder is good. Especially during this, our Silver Anniversary Year:

COMMUNITY OF ST. MALACHI MISSION STATEMENT

Jesus Christ has called us together as a Catholic Christian community in this particular place.
Through the Scripture, Christ has given us:
a pattern for our salvation;
a living witness of God’s love for us.

Our mission, therefore, is
to worship God and celebrate Eucharist together; to love others the way we are loved by God;
to take time to comfort God’s people; to provide refuge; to heal; to console; to give hope.

As a pilgrim church continuing the Presence of Christ:
We
recognize Presence of Christ:
We recognize
the need to nurture our own personal and spiritual growth;
we
desire to take more seriously the impact of the Gospel on our world;
we
commit to becoming stronger witnesses to the love of God in Jesus, who is our hope.

A Message from Stephanie Taylor-Ayres:

Black History Month has been celebrated in February for many years. It gives us all an opportunity to learn more about the achievements of African Americans.

As African Americans we come from a long history of struggles, but in all of our struggles the one thing that has kept us going is our deep, abiding faith with the Lord.

Our faith has carried us in good times as well as bad times. Our faith has been our challenge to be committed to all people. Our faith calls us to be a gentle reminder of God’s loving gift to us all –God’s son, Jesus Christ. So we come together to remember, to celebrate, and we believe.

We remember our families and our people, and especially our flag. The red represents our struggles, past and present. The black represents our unity and togetherness, and green represents the land of Africa, from where our ancestors were brought.

We celebrate our diversity, the gifts and talents, the hard work that has made life better for all people, black, white and other. We believe that there will come a day when we all will come together, and stand tall together, and be one. And nothing will stand in our way – not race, creed or religion. – STA

CSM SYMPATHY AND PRAYERS for the families and friends of Jean DeChant, John Gebbie,
Marguerite Mazzolini
and Madonna Kolbenschlag HM

CSM Council President Rebecca Rocco describes Jean DeChant this way:

"A member of council, an usher, a volunteer at Monday Night Meals – especially loved the people in the high-rise building – a tutor in English of the Somali children. She loved people everywhere. A woman of strong faith. A retired elementary school teacher, a substitute teacher, she taught children at the Museum of Natural History. A world traveler – she especially loved Wales. Saw the Great Wall of China. She loved to sing, and every year joined the Martin Luther King Jr. Choir."

Jean DeChant, as a member of the Hospitality Committee, for a long time has warmly welcomed
participants to our 11 o’clock Liturgy. She who loved so many, was herself loved by so many.
Those who will miss her so much have no doubt of her own warm welcome into the next life.

HEALTH DEPARTMENT– please continue to keep in your prayers Herman Strnisha, Dennis
Stramel, Mary Beth Gibbons, Betty Pickle, Margaret Wolf
and Alice Wiese (aunt of Dolores Sullin).

And CSM CONGRATULATIONS to Megan Leitch, who earned First Honors during the first
semester of her senior year at Magnificat High School.

At the request of Duane Horning and others, here’s the memory of Gen McCloskey presented at her recent funeral by her son, Bob:

I hear crossword puzzles are the rage in heaven. In every one, two answers are the same. Each 13 down, each 27 over will always spell out Gen McCloskey’s name.

And I hear that there’s a Malley’s on each corner. Mint chocolate chip and hot fudge will be free. Nutmallow will be spread out for the taking. So help yourself for all eternity.

And I know that heaven will become more liberal when in a month, the saints you’ll organize to lobby for your liberating causes
‘Cause who can e’er resist your Irish eyes?

And I’ll bet that there’s a little church in heaven that loves and serves like your St. Malachi’s. Where women priests say Mass on every Sunday. There will be…if God’s listening to your pleas!

And I know that you’ll have friends and family up there. Your husband, brother, sister, mom and dad. They’ll welcome you and fold their wings about you, and share again the happy times you had.

Yet those of us still here will have feelings of loss that time and distance won’t erase. A special woman’s made her way to heaven,
A lady blessed with beauty, style and grace.

But I’ll still talk to you and you’ll still listen. So as you enter your eternal rest, "Godspeed" from one of those who’ll always love you
As one last time I say "Goodnight…God Bless!"
