COMMUNITY PLANS LITURGY AND HALLOWEEN PARTY FOR CHILDREN ON OCT.
31
Dressed in their Halloween costumes, children of the 4th, 5th, and
6th grades are invited to attend a party, preceded by a special childrens liturgy,
from 11 am to about 2 pm in the school hall on Sunday, Oct. 31.
| Parents whose children wish to attend and anyone
volunteering to assist with the party are asked to contact either Ms.
Terri Burns 842-8797 or Ms. Sibyl Larcey
331-0237. Each child is asked to bring a bag of candy to the party. Both the children of the St. Malachi Community and of the Urban Community
School are invited to the party which is being sponsored jointly by the Liturgy and Social
Action Committees.

HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS HOLD MEETING Members of the Community who are in their second, third, or fourth years of
high school will meet in the school hall following the 11 am Mass on Oct. 17.
Ms. Mary Denise Simko, a high school senior and member of the Steering g Committee,
will lead an informal cliscussion on ways high school students may share in and add to the
life of the Community. |
80 ATTEND
CHRISTIAN EDUCATION MEETING AND LITURGY;
ASSUMPTION CHURCH OFFERS LECTURE SERIES ON BIBLE |

| Responding to a
need for greater Christian awareness, approximately 80 persons met in the school hall on
Sept. 11 to discuss directions which the Community might take in setting up a program of
Christian education. Until the Community is
able to begin its own program of adult education those at the meeting urged the
utilization of programs already available |
| News Briefs WINTER
BOOTS which your children have outgrown may be left at the rear of the church any Sunday
in October for distribution in the neighborhood. FOOD will be collected at the rear of the
Church every Sunday from now on for distribution in the neighborhood. A PENETENTIAL
SERVICE will be conducted during the last week in October. Details will be announced next
week. THE SCHOOL SUPPLY collection for the children of the Urban Community School on Sept.
12 raised $72.
READING ASSIGNMENTS for the 11 am Mass are now on a voluntary basis. If you wish
to read, sign up on the calendar at the rear of the church.
THE SOCIAL ACTION COMMITTEE will hold its next meeting on Oct. 18 at 8 pm in the home
of Ms. Tern Burns, 7707 Essen Ave., Parma. Anyone interested in working with this
committee is welcome. Volunteers are needed to work with the elderly in the Lakeview
Housing Project, call Ms. Lydia Davis 234 7295, and with UCS, call 7814407. |

at Assumption Church, 5555 Smith Road, Brook Park. Proposals for formal and informal education of children were discussed with an
emphasis being placed on parental responsibility.
Rev. LaVerdiere, a recognized Scripture scholar,
manages in his lectures to combine expertise with a considerable wit. The titles of the
remaining talks in the series, all on Thursday nights from 8 to 9:30 pm, are: Oct. 14,
Original Sin in the Book of Genesis; Oct. 21, Psalms 23 and 29: Yahweh, Shepherd and God
of Storms; Oct. 28, The New Testament Today; Nov. 4, Who Is Jesus; Nov. 11, The Primitive
Church; and Nov. 18, The Eucharist. |
