This Sunday, May 20, is the Cleveland Rite-Aid Marathon.
The Saturday 4:30 Mass will not be affected. The roads should be open as usual.
The roads leading to St. Malachi Church on Sunday, May 20, will be affected by road closures and the runners by the Marathon.
There WILL be access to St. Malachi for Mass.
Road Closing Information: See the information on the marathon website at this link: Cleveland Marathon Road Closure List.
Specifics for your Travel:
1) Locally, you may need a Worship Access Pass (distributed in church last weekend) to cross streets along the route. The maps are on the website: https://www.clevelandmarathon.com/runners-info/course-info.aspx There the street closure chart
(above) should provide the time when streets will be closed and re-opened to traffic. Note: Detroit Rd. from W. 65th St. across the Detroit-Superior Bridge will be closed from early morning to mid-afternoon.
2) Best and highly recommended route for those coming to St. Malachi from the west or the south side: take I-90 East through the Innerbelt downtown to Route 2 (Shoreway) going West (take right 2 lanes going around dead man’s curve) past the Rock Hall and Browns’ stadium & exit at W. 28 St. (left hand lane). (Note that traffic is one lane across the bridge.) Turn right on W. 28 Street and then right onto Washington and right onto W. 25th to the church.
3) For those interested in going through the Flats: the course does use Columbus Rd., but the road is scheduled to be opened by 8:30-8:45 AM. According to the maps, it should be possible to exit I-90 at W. 25 St., take W. 25 St (left) to Columbus Rd. (right). Down the hill to where it ends at Center St. (left), across the bridge and left on Washington up the hill to St. Malachi. This route should certainly be open to go home after 9:00 Mass and for 11:30 Mass.
4) Avoiding the West Shoreway is recommended; the Shoreway will be open, but there will be long delays.
