From the January 13, 2002 issue of Communio(The meeting was convened at 7:00 p.m. in the School Hall on December 2nd. Paul Wingenfeld opened the meeting with faith sharing.) Pastor’s Report: The pastor reminded us to continue praying for RCIA journey of faith participants. He noted that the enrollment of unbaptized persons as well as welcoming of those baptized and now desiring full communion with the Catholic Church has just taken place. Fr. Tony said that Malachi House has completed and moved into the new addition of its building. The original section of the house is undergoing renovation. They hope to complete the work and be fully operational by late May or early June. St. Malachi Looks to the Future: Rejoice and Renew: Activities Completed: Established an Outreach Coordinator. Activities Underway: Collaboration with Parish to consider development of a picture directory, investigating ways to streamline the recommitment process, outreach to new members, mentoring. Activities Planned: prospective member cards; support Hospitality committee to place greeters at Coffee Hour; inviting a wider range of membership participation; development of a plan to reach out for new, more diverse members; Name Tag Sunday; encourage support of Malachi Ministries. Still needed is approval for development of the "Picture Directory." Liturgy Committee: Jeanette Shemo of the Liturgy Committee reviewed this year’s events. She noted that the bereavement workshop was a success and will become an annual event, and that baptismal garments are being made for each child. A Mass of Remembrance and subsequent reception to honor all those who passed away this past year was held on All Souls Day,
November 2nd at 7:00 p.m. Over 75 people were in attendance. Since this was very successful, we plan to make this an annual event. An Evening of Remembrance is in the planning for liturgical ministers. The Eucharistic prayer is in the process of review and the wedding brochure is being revised. Pam Pulizzi has volunteered to co–chair the CSM Liturgy Committee with Jeanette
Shemo. Spiritual Development: Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002 starts Vocation Awareness Week (Jan. 13-19). All are encouraged to discuss vocation opportunities with their families. — Michael May (Mike is one of the co–chairs for the Communications Committee along with Luis Gutierrez and Joe Pulizzi.) Pastor’s Report: Vibrant Parish Life – a "kick–off" gathering to present resources for parishes will be held in 4 locations: Monday, Feb. 25 at St. Clarence, N. Olmsted at 7:30 PM; Tuesday, March 5 at St. Noel, Willoughby Hills at 7:30 PM; Saturday, March 9 at the Catholic Center downtown at 9 AM; Wednesday, March 13 at Our Lady of the Elms, Akron at 7:30 PM. Each parish is asked to attend one session with 4–6 staff and/or parish leaders, including some of those who will lead the parish’s implementation. Council members urged to attend. More education needed to communicate this program with parish and community. Bikepath proposal will happen – many opportunities for the community. Mike Pelegrino volunteered as head to check on the future of the proposal. Picture Directory Update: Membership committee is planning the membership directory – received positive feel from parish and community. Will be an alphabetical listing with Picture/Name, Parish/Community member. Also will include group shots by organization. No costs to families unless they want to buy additional pictures. Tentative date is May 18 – 26 (2 full weekends). Will need to make appointment in advance. Motion made to go ahead with directory passed.Leadership Development Update: Dave DeLambo to speak at St. Malachi Center, Saturday Jan. 26, 9am to 11am. All parish and community members invited. Next session will be April. Spiritual Growth Committee: Lenten Travel Guide to replace Lenten series. Small Christian community meeting to come on Jan. 28th. Hospitality Committee: Rosemary Gray resigns as Hospitality Chair. Need immediate person to oversee Coffee Hour. Mike Pelegrino to head up finding chairperson.
