Liturgy Commission Report

The meeting began with a reflection and sharing of the Gospel for Holy Thursday liturgy,John 13:1-15.

Minutes from March meeting accepted.

Mary Wishnesky was welcomed. Discussion:

Holy Thursday: Shared some recollections of last year’s evalution/comments.  It was agreed that three chairs would be placed in front of the altar with Fr. Tony washing the feet of the first three people; this would be followed by their washing the feet of the next three with two more rotations until 12 members would be ministered to.  Details/logistics will be developed by K. Vine and T. Jungquist.

Group invited to participate would be a cross section of parish membership (age, gender,…); Call to Worship might be offered by a member of the music ministry; gift and oil bearers will also be named. C. Dusek will bake bread. Good Friday: Fr. Jim will preside; additional lectors needed.

Holy Saturday/Easter Vigil:  Joe Wegryznowski will prepare fire for 9:30 PM service; liturgical ministers still needed (Noted: ask for ushers for all Triduum services).  Reception following liturgy is being coordinated by M. James.Noon Stations will be done by youth members.

Palm Sunday: Peter Toomey will do audio/visuals at all Masses.

Tenebrae: 7PM on Monday, April 18 at St. John Cantius (W. 11 and Professor); schola members from several parishes.  Easter Sunday: sprinkling rite at all Masses; ministers already scheduled; “Miracle” choir will be invited to supplement; coffee hours after 9:30 and 11:00; a prayer/Easter blessing card with the St. Malachi Risen Jesus image will be printed and given to all as part of the hospitality and joyful expression of the feast! Other business:  Budget will be presented as reviewed at the March meeting;

June 7 is Pentecost Fest;  Fr. Joe Fortuna at St. Malachi on May 18 to talk about the “poetry” of liturgical words and some reflection on the coming Missal changes.  Potluck dinner at 6:00 PM prior to his presentation.  Details will be worked out by Spiritual Development Commission.

Next Meeting:  Tuesday, May 10 at 6:00 PM in the Rectory.

Notes From Hospitality

Parish Life/Hospitality continues to work on our Murder Mystery Night, June 25.  We will begin sign-ups May 1.  We are still looking for host homes. We will be sponsoring the Easter Vigil reception after Liturgy on Holy Saturday.  We are in need of donations of pastry and cold drinks. We are also collaborating with Stewardship to organize the Celebration of Service luncheon later this year.  And we are helping with the luncheon at the Annual Meeting, May 22.

Sunday, April 10 – bulletin announcement about nominations for 3 at-large members.   Also announced at liturgies.  Sent to parish email list.  Nomination forms available at doors of church.

Sunday, April 24 – Nominations completed.  Ask nominees to send a phone picture, if possible, or Norm will take pictures at a designated place and time.  Ask them to write a profile of themselves and what gifts they could bring to Council.

Sunday, May 8 – Publish pics and profiles as bulletin insert and online.   Article in bulletin announcing candidates.

Sunday, May 22 – Annual Parish Meeting – Introduce candidates.  Voting starts.  Ballots available at meeting, doors of church, and online.

Saturday, June 4 – Deadline for voting.

Sunday, June 5 – – Count ballots.

SundayJune 12 – Election results announced in bulletin and online.

Stewardship Commission

The Stewardship Commission met two weeks ago to set up the plans and committees for the year.  The main objective is to sustain stewardship in the parish after we have had an energetic beginning during the past year.
A committee of the commission will meet with the Hospitality Commission to plan the celebration of the volunteers of the various ministries event held each year.
There are five committees of the commission:  Education, Ministry Fair/Events, Outreach, Assessment of parish ministries, Commitment.  The work is done in these committees with the members; monthly the chairs of each meet with the chair of the commission as a steering committee.
The committees are in the process of being formed.  The delegate to the Pastoral Parish Council is Judy Comeu-Hart.  The chair of the commission for the new year will be decided at the May meeting.

Holy Week Schedule 2011

There are many benefits of tradition and ritual with our families and our friends. We celebrate the events (births, weddings, etc). And we celebrate their memory (birthdays and anniversaries). We make those original events present to us by reuniting with the people who were present (a wedding party) and others, by sharing stories, pictures and videos. This is especially true when the person at the center of the celebration is a close friend or someone we look up to for their wisdom and consistency of thought and action … or both. This is especially true when the person at the center of the celebration is someone who loves us and whom we love.

Liturgy helps us to be present to the events in Jesus’ life, passion, death, and resurrection; it does this through prayer, stories, and song.

This week, we are invited to prepare for and to participate in the events of remembering how the faithfulness of God through Jesus Christ showed us God’s love and new Covenant.

HOLY THURSDAY APRIL 21, 2011 at 7:00 PM
Mass of the Lord’s Supper
Put yourself in a disciple’s place. Would you let Jesus wash your feet? How would you respond to him?
Jesus said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you? You call me Teacher and Lord — and you are right, for that is what I am. So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. (John 13:12-14)

Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament until 10pm
Who, among us, have not struggled at one time or another? Here is our chance to be with Jesus in his sadness.
Then he came to the disciples and found them sleeping; and he said to Peter, “So, could you not stay awake with me one hour? Stay awake and pray that you may not come into the time of trial the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (Matthew 26:40-41)

GOOD FRIDAY – APRIL 22, 2011

Commemoration of the Lord’s Passion with Communion, 3:00 pm
We are called to walk with Jesus, as we might walk with anyone we love during a struggle. We walk with Jesus as he proceeds to his trial, passion, and death. The difference is we know how the story continues in Resurrection.
Since, then, we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast to our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who in every respect has been tested as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. (Hebrews 4:14-16)

SATURDAY APRIL 23, 2011 – EASTER VIGIL 9:30 PM
Blessing of Fire:
We show our preparedness in the Blessing of Fire.
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. “Be dressed for action and have your lamps lit; be like those who are waiting for their master to return from the wedding banquet, so that they may open the door for him as soon as he comes and knocks. (Lk 12:34-36)

Easter Vigil Service:
We remember God’s light and faithfulness as experienced by God’s people in the Old Testament. We commemorate the Event of the Resurrection, our hope. “Do not be afraid,” Jesus tells us. We are an Easter people!
Suddenly Jesus met them [Mary Magdalene and the other Mary] and said, “Greetings!” And they came to him, took hold of his feet, and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.” (Matthew 28:9-10)
