2021 Catholic Charities Annual Appeal
The 2021 Catholic Charities Annual Appeal will take place next weekend in our parish. Please refer to the insert in this week’s bulletin which includes our parish’s goal and an overview of the importance of Catholic Charities in our communities. This year’s appeal theme is Love Your Neighbor. Your generous support will transform the lives of others, to offer dignity, possibilities and companionship to those who are most vulnerable. As in the past, an in-pew commitment process will take place the weekend of February 20-21. All who have not received the mailing from Bishop Malesic, or have not had a chance to respond to it, will be asked to consider making a generous pledge to support the ministries and services provided by Catholic Charities.
If you have received the mailing, please respond generously to it and we ask you to also complete the in-pew envelope and indicate by checking the box that you have responded by mail. We invite you to view stories of inspiration and more information at CatholicCommunity.org/2021Appeal. Double your impact! A generous donor, who believes in the mission of Catholic Charities, will match your gift, up to $1 million. Do twice as much good when you give online at CatholicCommunity.org/Match. Thank you!
Minutes From Pastoral Council Meeting 2.2.21
IMINUTES FROM PASTORAL COUNCIL MEETING ON 2/2/21 VIA ZOOM
I. Education/Planning Ahead for Communications: Carrie and Kevin Burke facilitated a lively discussion about how we can work together to improve parish communications—suggestions followed:
Update the website
Realize the increasing need for a parish Zoom account
Explore benefits of a weekly email for parish news, perhaps using ParishSOFT which we already have
Consider hiring a part time “communications coordinator” like at St. Pat’s
Develop a list of current needs (Carrie & Kevin)
Contact the Catholic Young Adult Organization for skilled volunteers (Patrick)
II. Discussion:
Ministry Liaisons: Council members were matched with the ministries: Finance: Jim Bishop; Sunday AM at St Malachi: Steph Riccobene; Spiritual Development: Heather Gerheim; MNM & Back Door: Patrick Cleary-Burns; Social Action: John Paul Stephens; Communication: Claudia Cabrera; Hospitality: Linda Wilson; Evangelization & Fruitful Disciples: Judy Slivka; Mother Teresa/Samaritan: Judy Stowe; Life-Long Faith Formation: Melissa Smith-Morales; Liturgy: Patrick Cleary-Burns; Malachi Center: Cathy Graham; West Side Creation Care Team: Judy Slivka; Building & Grounds, Malachi House & Stewardship: Executive Committee

Annual Parish Meeting: Will be on Sunday, April 25 (afternoon) on Zoom (d/t pandemic) & possibly coordinated with live stream of 10AM mass; to be planned by Fr. Gurnick, Patrick Cleary-Burns, Judy Slivka & Judy Stowe
III. Administrator’s Report: Fr. Gurnick
Pursuant to his recent letter to the Council Chairperson, Fr.Gurnick reiterated his intent to have fruitful conversations over the next few months with all the individual ministries to learn about their overall perspective regarding the mission of St. Malachi.
An invitation was extended to all to attend the “Living as Missionary Disciples” presentations after 5:30 PM mass on four Wednesdays in Lent at St. Patrick’s (Bridge)
Reminder: Our Lenten charity is the St. Kizito Mission (Uganda) begun by Fr. Don Dunson
The “Back Door Ministry Evening Supper” has temporarily replaced the Monday Night Meal (MNM), which is currently on hiatus due to the pandemic. Simple, nutritious meals are provided for take-out at the door of the hall on Monday nights.
Campus Realities
Heat Issues: the boiler serving the school, hall & church has been replaced; the boiler for the Rectory stopped working (no heat) and hopefully can be repaired
North church steps: the canopy is helping; further repairs are still being processed
Plumbing: plans (most are extremely expensive) are pending for solution to clogged pipes for front church toilet; thankfully, the Convent plumbing is not affected.
Respectfully submitted,
Judy Stowe, Secretary

St. Ignatius High School Honor Students
Congratulations to the following parishioners who achieved honors in the first semester at St. Ignatius High School: First Honors: Simon Hajjar and Joseph Lobozzo. Honor Roll: John McCarthy and Seamus McCarthy. Way to Go!
Live as Missionary Disciples!
“All the baptized, whatever their position in the Church or their level of instruction in the faith, are agents of evangelization, and it would be insufficient to envision a plan of evangelization to be carried out by professionals while the rest of the faithful would be simply passive recipients.” –from the new Directory of Catechesis (DFC) #288. This paragraph, from the 2020 DFC, reminds us of our basic call by Jesus to live as missionary disciples within the realities of our daily lives. Plan to join in person at St Pat’s on four Wednesdays in Lent—Mass at 5:30 PM and talk at 6:00 PM—or via livestream as we enter Lenten practice by turning and responding ever more deeply to Jesus’ summons. More details will follow as we approach Ash Wednesday on February 17th.
