Experiencing the Invitation of God

It happens every year … do you remember?  … back in school. Some of us liked it, some of us hated it. New teacher(s), new class(es), new classmate(s). New things to learn, new things to do. Some of us were excited, some worried, some quickly bored. Some of us treasured learning something new and could not wait to put it into practice or to talk about it. For some of us, the something new was life-changing or vision changing. Some of us did not know the value of what we learned in school until much later in life. But, one thing is for sure, we had a lot to learn. There was a lot we did not know and, often, we did not know that we did not know it.

Why should only younger people have all the opportunity to learn something new? When do we adults get a chance to learn something new? We have that chance now. We have a chance to learn how people experienced God throughout the ages and today. “Experiencing the Invitation of the Trinity” starts this Wednesday, September 8, at St. Malachi Hall. Sr. Mary McCormick OSU will help us understanding how the Christian understanding of who God is developed through the Hebrew Scriptures, i.e. what we usually call the Old Testament. But this will not be class, where Sister talks at us and gives a bunch of information. We will have a chance to do some reflecting on what we hear with others in faith-sharing and discussion. (That’s WAY more than most young people get in school.)

While I cannot guarantee you will feel awe, there is always the possibility that you will. Plus there is all that great food — because there is pot luck dinner before the session! Would you drive to downtown Cleveland on a Wednesday evening for dinner and a performance if you thought there was a chance you would feel something great, learn something new, or experience something great? If your answer is  “Yes,” then please consider attending this first session of our series.

See you this Wednesday, September 8, at 6pm in St. Malachi Hall.
