This past week has shown St. Malachi at our best. Last Sunday, almost four dozen individuals & families distributed 672 fruit baskets to our neighbors; dozens of others donated to help meet the cost of the fruit baskets. Later on Sunday, people from St. Malachi participated in the Communal Penance Service at St. Wendelin; on Tuesday, our Christian Formation families celebrated the Sacrament of Reconciliation at St. Malachi (with families from St. Patrick, Urban Community School & St. Wendelin), giving witness to their belief in a loving & forgiving God. On Monday night, as always, dozens of volunteers from St. Malachi & the wider community, supported by a host of cooks, put on the Monday Night Meal. And, as always, the Backdoor served people every day. Tuesday night was the robbery at St. Malachi Center of Christmas toys & gifts for the homeless. As word of what happened got out, St. Malachi responded with “how can I/we help?” calls & emails, by showing up with new toys, with gifts for “the guys” and with cash, by contacting others who could help, by arranging for on-line giving, by doing whatever they could to more-than-make-up for whatever was taken. You shall love the Lord your God with your whole heart and soul and mind and strength and your neighbor as yourself. We have been living that this week.
